For dog lovers, the most difficult part of keeping a loyal friend is accepting that their lifespan are much shorter than a humans. Life is too short and it’s hard to imagine the day of their departure.

Average life expectancy of small and medium-sized dogs are about 15 years old, while the average life expectancy of large dogs are only about 10 years old. Life longevity is based on average and ideal conditions. It’s been estimated that only 4% of dogs live to the age of 14 years old. A very limited time.

An old Husky not only lived to the age of 16, but its body remains tough. It will enthusiastically go out for daily walks and maintains a stature that is regarded as legendary in the dog world.

Commitment is important. This Siberian husky named ‘Wolf Girl’ was abandoned after being old and became a stray dog at the age of ten.

Despite loving and caring for our loyal dog companions, the average life expectancy of the Husky is just 11 or 12 years, strays even less. Fortunately, after a string of coincidences, she was re-homed with a new master. Her gentle and obedient manner left a lasting impression during a chance encounter, the current owner adopted her regardless of her age or health. Older dogs tend to get sick easily but this new loving master had given her an unconditional commitment of companionship.

After adoption, not only did she spend six more years in happiness, their companionship continues to thrive to this very day.

INTERACTION IS REALLY IMPORTANT!

Every day, the family will stroke and groom Wolf Girl, talking to it as their own child. It’s a heartwarming turn of events that sees the owner taking her out for walk at a fixed time every day while paying attention to her general mood.

Any sign of abnormalities will be responded with immediate medical attention. Such care and attention has kept the 16-year-old Wolf Girl very healthy!

A program in Korea has been exploring the secrets of longevity in dogs. The research team sourced a sample of older dogs and wanted to see if they had any discernable pattern in common:

The 24-year-old grandfather dog is equivalent to a 134 year old human!

The 17-year-old grandmother dog is equivalent to s 99 year old human!

There are also three generations of long-living dogs:

The youngest daughter is 16 years old, mother is 17 years old, and grandmother is 18 years old!

Through testing, doctors found that stress hormones in these long-lived dogs are lower than average.

This also shows that high-life expectancy dogs have a very good mentality, are carefree, and maintain emotions of happiness!

Researches were beginning to unravel some secrets relating long dog life.

COMPANIONSHIP OF THE OWNER!

Intimate and long-lasting companionship, can make dogs happier, so they can live a stress free life. The power of love and care is not to be underestimated.

Researchers were able summaries their findings, detailing the common features of these long-lived dogs:

• They have had a smooth and stress free socialization process;

• Possess strong adaptability and maintain affinity in unfamiliar environments;

• Living conditions have not changed drastically, maintaining emotional stability, and continuous source of happiness.

Whether longevity is directly influenced by these factors remains to be determined but a dog’s happiness and quality of life should be priority.

Dogs are not with us for long and it best to cherish and treasure your loyal companion!

Dog owners should express endless reserves of love for their dogs and continue to shower them with affection and attention. Woof!
