But having experienced so many beloved dog's demise over the years, and remembering the signs, I have spoiled the shit out of him the past few months, and it's almost like I have revived an untrained puppy!
My friend came over today with pizza and to watch the game. There was was my dog, right at his feet, hoping my friend would drop something on the floor, or mostly just waiting for the crusts. My friend got irritated at my dogs intense stare at his pizza. Yes, when he was much younger, he was taught not to beg. He could have easily been called off.
I said, don't make it a big deal. He may be acting like a puppy, untrained and rude, but he is old, has a hard time getting up and down off the floor, and anytime he acts like an untrained puppy is fine with me, and another day he will stay here with me. I'll spoil the shit out of him, from now on out, until I can't anymore!
My friend got it. There comes a time when the need to control turns into the need to just console.
