This is my entry into this month’s PHC Top 3 contest.

This months topic is Holiday Movies

My Nominations are:

Nomination Number One

A Christmas Carol (1938) Directed by Edwin L. Marin

My Reasons for the Nomination

I chose this 1938 movie version of Charles Dickens’ novella, originally titled, "A Christmas Carol. In Prose. Being a Ghost Story of Christmas." not because it was the first film adaptation, (it was the second actually, with the first one in 1935), but because in my opinion, it is the best and there will never be a better one.

Everything about this movie is just so right with the costumes and the sets; it’s always made me feel as though I am there, experiencing that period of time.

Another thing about this film is that YouTube recognizes that it is still pretty popular, by having a price to watch the full movie there. The link I’m providing might be okay if you have a big screen TV, but it’s one of those where they have the movie in a smaller picture-in-picture format. It looks good and clear, just small. Check it out if you get a chance, it’s a real classic!

Nomination Number Two

Home Alone (1990)

My Reasons for the Nomination

Seriously, anyone who has seen this movie needs no references to what makes it one of the funniest movies of all time, and some would argue it’s absolutely the funniest movie ever. It’s the movie that gave Macaulay Culkin, (a legend to this day), not 15 minutes of fame, but a lifetime.

How could it not be great, with Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern playing the bumbling idiots trying to break into a house with a little kid that was mistakenly forgotten about when the family left for Christmas vacation in Paris, and without anyone noticing he was not with them? A kid that would absolutely make the crooks regret it, and how!

What he does to them is just brutal, but it’s so hilarious since it’s such a little kid that’s outfoxing them and making them pay dearly for their attempts. And since they refuse to give up, and since they’re criminals, it’s one round of laughing after another. It’s the kind of comedy that makes me feel tired from laughing so much!

Nomination Number Three

Christmas Vacation (1989)

My Reasons for the Nomination

The National Lampoon movies are some of the funniest moves ever made, and by now I would think at least some of them are considered classics. The “Vacation” films were so funny, with a great cast headed by Chevy Chase that can make me laugh just thinking about it. Seeing the film is always funnier though.

Like Home Alone, this movie has lots of scenes that will keep me laughing for nearly the whole film, and can make me feel tired after watching also.

I would have to say that the squirrel and the dog chasing it was the most memorable and funniest part of the movie as it tried to escape by running everywhere, with the dog following and destroying everything in its wake.

Of course there is probably some numbskull in Hollywood trying to make a new version of this movie because apparently they don’t have a lot of writing talent today, and they just make crummy remakes of once great movies and end up with not only a bad remake but it sullies the original as well sometimes. I wish they’d get creative and stop ruining great, fairly recent films.

Awesome choices! Fun to see so many different versions of A Christmas Carol! Should be really exciting to see which ones top the list on the dpoll! Love Home Alone and Christmas Vacation, as well. It's not the holidays without some good laughs. Good luck in the contest!

Those are brilliant choices! You've got a couple classics there. I'm a big fan of A Christmas Carol of most forms (not all; some of them are horrible), and Christmas Vacation is just too funny for words!

Thanks, this was a pretty easy one for me to choose my picks, (they're usually difficult as hell!), and I'm very grateful for that! :)

Great picks, Home Alone is an awesome movie! :)

I wonder how long it will be until they make a new version of it that will suck , just as 99.9% of other remakes do? You just know it's coming. They can't help themselves!

Thanks for these awesome suggestions for our contest this month! We've given you an upvote and logged your nominations, ready for the dpoll - keep an eye on our blog for the dpoll post!

Set your post payout to 50/50. You keep the SP and then transfer the STEEM and/or SBD (whichever is paid out at the time) to @yourtop3 with a link to your blog post entry in the transfer memo. This is the minimum entry fee, but you can add as much as you like to it! The more you add, the more you can win. There is no maximum entry fee.

Not sure how to find your post payout? Look in your Steem Wallet under Author Rewards to find the exact payout for your post. In the example below you would send the 0.014 SBD and 6.587 STEEM over to the @yourtop3 account as your entry fee. We’ll take it from there and convert all of the prize pool to SBD for easy prize distribution at the end of the month!

I checked my wallet this morning but the rewards for this post doesn't seem to have been revealed yet. Do you know exactly how long after posting it shows up there?

It takes 7 days to show, to the hour from when you posted. People have within the 7 days to upvote your post :) Hope that helped. If you need more guidance, check with one of us in the Discord channel ;)

Ok, I sent mine in. It is 0.965 steem, but I rounded it up to 1 steem.

Also, I saw your comment somewhere that I'm using an outdated template, and just wanted to let you know I saw that comment and I will get the newer template. I don't remember seeing anything on there being a template change in the contest announcement post though.

I use MS Word to do my writing, and when I first got the template, I put it into word.

I guess maybe some peeps get the template new from your contest announcement post for each contest, but I would only do that if I know there's been a change and I need the new one. Can you make an announcement when the template changes in future?

Thanks!

Awesome, thanks so much! And you are so right--we totally missed making it more obvious that the templates were adjusted! Thanks for the great feedback to help us make sure you guys always have the latest info. We appreciate you!

Hey @free-reign,

We noticed that you're still using the old blog templates and the tag used should be #yourtop3 not #phctop3.

We did a big transition to the new @yourtop3 account with a rebrand, new logo and designs last month but fully understand people are catching up with this still so no worries.

Here is a link to the new blog template for future contests and we'll put you in the draw for this month's entries.

Awesome choices, @free-reign! Those are three that would've made my list too (but guess I gotta come up with some different ones...lol!). Good luck with the contest!

@tipu curate

Thank you @traciyork! It was fun to watch the trailers and get reminded of all the hilarity all over again. I generally don't watch many movies more than once, and can count on one hand those that I have, so the trailers bring back lots of memories for me.

And thanks for the tip!

A Christmas Carol is definitely on my list. Now, I am going to have to check whether it's the 1935 or 1938 one. Great choices

I hadn't seen the 1935 one, when I went looking for the one I posted. I watched it up until Marley came through the door, but there was no actor. He said that Scrooge was the only one that could see him, and he meant it! Not even the audience could see him, lol.

I've thought about it, and I think that their doing it with just a voice was possibly due to saving on the film's budget. It would be an easy way out of paying some actor in makeup with chains around his neck when they could get away with the invisibility, since I believe that is an actual line in the novella.

Agreed.

Three great choices, Home Alone seems to be the favorite this round.

!BEER

I thought it might be, since IMO, it's one of, if not the greatest comedies of all time, with such perfect casting in all of the parts. Looking forward to seeing these movies again this year!

Hey @free-reign, here is a little bit of BEER from @rentmoney for you. Enjoy it!

Thank you for the beer @rentmoney!

Oh yes, A Christmas Carol has so many variations to it and the one that I chose was the Muppets version (I'm still a kid at heart and it was the first version I watched)! Home Alone of course is another belter, made my Top 3 too and can't wait to watch it again over the Christmas period!

The third one is a new one to me so I'm definitely going to have to make some time to watch it or look out for it over the TV schedule in the coming weeks!

Good luck for the contest

P.S. we've moved over to @yourtop3 now, the tag to use is #yourtop3 and the new blog post template can be found here for future reference :)

Oh you have GOT to watch Christmas Vacation. It's pretty near that same level of greatness that is Home Alone! You may want to be careful though, if you get tired out from laughing the way I do sometimes, and you have something important to do afterwards.

Haha, well, you've sold it to me and I have a few days off coming up so it looks like I'll need to find a streaming site to watch it! Keeping the rest of the day free after watching it so that I don't have anything important to do :)

I don't know what your setup is, but I believe they show this movie on regular broadcast TV during the season. Of course that adds commercials and cuts some of the film, but if you can't find any other way...

Awesome! Thanks for sending over your entry fee, just letting you know that I've added you in with your nominations now!

Good luck and keep your eyes peeled for the upcoming dpoll around the 14th of December, where we put it to the public vote and let the Steem community decide their top 3 :)
