I see so many great photos from people all over the world here on Steemit, so I decided to post a couple of pics from Philadelphia last night. In exhibit A you can see several very nervous Eagles fans dressed in their traditional garb. It’s hard to really explain the cultural significance of this. Try to imagine being told over and over and over (and over) again that you are going to get a really awesome birthday present, but then every year, when your birthday arrives, nothing. Some years your family shows you the present that may have been, and do something like throw it into a fire for you towatch burn. Other years there’s just nothing, but a sad, hollow memory of something like might actually seem like a present. Okay, so I’m talking really nervous humans here, thinking they might actually, maybe, but probably not, get the god damned present this year.
!
Exhibit B. Here we see the same humans celebrating. This was at a critical point in the game (I know, kind of an oxymoron there). I believe it was when Butter Fingers Brady, formerly known as the best quarterback in football, fumbled the ball. At this point the people in the photo forgot that their beloved Eagles were playing the Patriots, and it was still highly unlikely that the present wouldn’t be torn to pieces and *then thrown into a fire.
But alas, somehow, the Philadelphia football curse was lifted and inexplicably the Eagles are Super Bowl Champions, with a storyline that couldn’t have been better written for drama or excitement. From the deep, deep city-wide depression after Cason Wentz’s season ending injury, to the mystifying turnaround of Foles, to what was truly the best single Super Bowl anyone has seen, this was really one for the ages.
Yes, finally!! The trophy is ours and with it the title of NFL Champions!! After all those past disappointments, it feels almost too good to be true.;)

YASS! I love it. you took something simple here and elevated it to storytelling. Nicely done. I'm not much of a sports guy, but this pretty much sums up that feeling of thinking your team will get there to have it snatched. It's the same, whether it's Little League championship coming down to extra innings for the team you play on to lose by one run, or a Super Bowl, although people don't typically bet fortunes, or get stupid tattoos proclaiming their prognostications of who will win a little league championship! LOL

Exactly! I’m not much of a football fan, but I appreciate sport and the role it plays. I agree 100% that it’s the same in a little league championship as a professional one. It’s all about engagement and investment, and I am fascinated by the way we fall into supporting a team or athlete so easily and naturally. Mentioning little league, one of my all-time best sports moments was watching the Ewa Beach (Hawaii) kids win the little league World Series back in 2005 I think. I was just as into it as watching my dear Phillies in the World Series. It really is fun to see everyone so happy in the Philly region. I have so many friends that have bled green for so long that I’ve seriously worried about them!

I am not much of a football fan either. However, I read an interesting perspective on these mass sport's events in this book. I am sharing the link for All Things Shining as I think you might enjoy it as well.
