Reading is an exercise in empathy; an exercise in walking in someone else’s shoes for a while. —Malorie Blackman

This week I have been sharing quite a lot of quotes about reading. I am still following in those footsteps, simply because I find it to be a very essential activity in our lives. We need to read. But, we don't only need to read because it is healthy for our brains, but also because it will help us grow as human beings.

Take a closer look at today's quote of wisdom.

Reading is an exercise in empathy; an exercise in walking in someone else’s shoes for a while. —Malorie Blackman

It says that reading is an exercise in empathy. What does it mean? Whenever you read a book, you are reading the story of the world through the eyes of someone else. Maybe if you would see the story from your perspective, you would interpret reality in a very different way. But when you read a book, the woman who keeps yelling at her kids (who seem like a monster to you), suddenly makes sense when you see the world through her eyes and you understand that she had a troublesome childhood, that she had to take an abortion at an age of 16, that she had a divorce because her earlier husband was violent with her... and the story could go on.

Reading shows you the world from a bigger perspective, and it will make you more tolerant, and it will help you grow as a person!
