STEEMIT - Possible road to becoming a Digital Nomad?

in philippines •  7 years ago

So yesterday, I got some time off from work. I am currently working for a BPO here in Davao City Philippines. I am a team lead for a subscription box company based in the US. I actually have decent pay and a good shift. However nothing will still beat the longing of freedom and actually something that you love. Being stuck in a 6am to 3pm job tends to be repetitive and drown you in seemingly never ending loop of the corporate rat race and kill your creative drive. (Unless you actually dreamed of working in your current job then good for you.)

You can go on to say that I am an ungrateful prick. You're probably right, but let me tell you this. In this company, I have maintained a 1 yr and going perfect attendance. Performed to the best of my abilities and took initiatives in some parts. All I can say is I was actually happy working where I am now before. I didn't dread my alarm clock, I looked forward to coming in and was content on what was going on. Got promoted twice because of it. Sadly all of that is in the past now and now I am working towards becoming a digital nomad.

I want control of my life, my time and actually do something that makes a difference. I went on this journey thinking that I should go to websites like upwork and onlinejobs.ph . Hopefully get a good client and land a job where I only have to work 2-4 hours a day at home. The rest of the day I get to enjoy with the people who matter to me and doing the things which I actually love! That's the dream! It isn't as easy though. There are challenges of some clients scamming you or some of them not getting you because you are new. Long story short, my dream of becoming a Digital Nomad and taking my life back from the clutches of the corporate world was not anywhere near...YET!

It's a good thing a friend of mine, @patricklaguna introduced me to Steemit! He told me that he made $8 by posting himself singing! I was like for real? I mean I am a singer and I definitely do videos from time to time. I went ahead and got on to steeming! I joined last July 21,2017 and as of this date I currently have around 250 Steem Power. I have powered up before with 15 Steem and that's it. All of my SP is organically earned from posting everyday and just making it original and hoping for the best. For 1 month in the platform I'm not sure if this is a good thing or I am still slow. Still not bad for me.

So in relation to my title, yes it is still a question. Here is how it is, the minimum wage here in Davao City is at Php 320, in USD that is around $6 - $7. For me to live as a digital nomad and still earn enough to have minimum wage, I would have to produce blogs everyday that can earn at least $8 to $10 and I would have to at least write 3 blogs which can reach that success. The reason for this is because for my earnings to become withdraw-able I would have to make the post 50/50. Since Steem Power takes time to be withdraw-able and I would personally like to grow my SP. My personal goal is to reach at least $15 - $20 SBD per day. That would be enough for me to thrive here in Davao City, Philippines and still have enough money to bless other people as well.

In regards to this, there are days where I can hit it in no time, then come the days where it's just meh...I really need to work on the consistency of what I make here on steemit and I can make sure and assure my followers that my material is authentic and original, the reality is, that is not enough. Even though steemeit may at times act like a social media site, the effectivity of your writing skills still matter. I have a friend who achieved my current SP in 2 weeks! What took me 1 month took him half of the time. I'm still happy though, he does upvote all of my posts, can't complain about that.

This reality opened my eyes to the truth of effectively earning here on steemit! It's not just about quality or quantity, it should be both! Either a whale visits you or 10, 100, 1000 minnows support you! it's beautiful actually. My hope is now in the education of my country men about steemit! Why? Simple, If I upvote 1 person, I get curation rewards and the possibility of getting upvoted back. What if I educated 200 Filipinos and did the exact same thing. That would be beautiful. Steemit is wonderful for Filipinos because of the following factors.

  • Filipinos are always on Social Media. We are crazy for information! It's both a blessing and a curse, but in regards to Steemit, it's a blessing!

  • Filipinos are always looking forward to earn with the least amount of effort or something that would cost them less. While a lot of effort should be allotted to Steemit, it is free to join and the rewards are awesome!

  • Filipinos have a culture of "bayanihan" which means to help one another. Though some also have crab mentality, I can just hope that we can all unite for the common good!

This is why I have my strong 200 steemians project. I want to see 200 lives changed for the better and of course it will help me on my road to becoming a Digital Nomad! So far I have 20 people who are now actively steeming, 10% of my goal, so happy with it! Also, luckily I have made some posts which do earn a good amount from time to time and this is definitely helping me reach my goal. By the way goals are never bad. Just make sure that when you are chasing them, chase them well!

I got a feel of becoming the digital nomad that I wan't to become yesterday. Laptop, Wifi connection, good coffee in Blugre and an awesome view! Excited for it!

It's more than possible to make a living on Steemit. I've had 2 posts over $100, but the thing is I haven't been able to do it consistently.

For me, I spend 30 mins to 5 hours on a post (it would be quicker if I was a better singer lol), so I need to get that time down as low as possible, continue to post good content, and most importantly grow a following of people who believe in me as much as I do so I can consistently make $30-50+ a post to live off of :)

Good luck @aace234!!

awesome insight right here. Yeah some of us might not be that gifted in creating content. might as well empower people who are and look forward to the wheel of good will coming straight for you.

Thanks, Followed ya back!

Thanks! much appreciated!

Great post brother! I wish I had an answer for you but I'm brand new to SteemIt. I will say that your dream of becoming a digital nomad is wonderful and I wish you the best of luck. In fact, I'm going to start following you now so we can try to make that dream a reality.

Thank you @atlas2020! I followed you as well! Keep posting content as well (relevant content) get your points up and see the snow ball effect.

Wow i'll follow your journey.

Thank you! feel free to interact with my other content! :D

Your approach to teaching inspires me.

@sonu this comment inspires me as well! my approach is this. Give a man a fish and he will live another day, teach a man to fish and he will feed himself for years, teach the man to fish with you and you will both become rich.

You got this!! Steemit is my Digital Nomad answer as well :) Just keep working at it and writing quality and attractive posts and you will exceed your goals very soon!

Hopefully it happens soon! Also hope I can do it consistently everyday

Well, I personally believe being a digital nomad these days is actually possible if there is team work, and as you said, the team must not have crab mentality governing over their lives, which to me, honestly, is in most people's lives.

I have learned from a business owner a vital rule of thumb, to me, I am still trying to achieve it. That is to have at least 18 months of minimum wage in your savings, before you head out to wander that only God will take you. It's a soft landing pad in case of emergency or during dry spells.

Maybe that would help. I know I am trying to work on it myself.

And do stay on in our #theunmentionables discord. We have similar vision to help everyone be able to be sustainable in Steemit in the future.
