Visiting Banana Farmland

My visit in the farmland of Sumifru Corporation's Banana Plantation. One of the livelihood of indigenous people live in T'boli South Cotabato is planting and maintaining the grows of banana plants, banana is another source of income of the people living nearby with minimum rate of salary.

Photo below ,me , my sister and relatives upon rounding the banana plantation,

As we saw the photo below, this is the start of planting banana , the workers brought those corms of the banana plants that they cut under the stem of banana from dead mother banana plants. This is the the part of banana that can be planted since banana is seedless.

This is the corms of the banana , here you can see the corms planted already by the worker. They planted it by digging a circular hole atleast 30 cm wide and 30 cm deep enough for 1 corms to grow healthy.

Hectares of banana was been maintain by the worker .They checked and rounds every day, workers had different assignment and designation, some assigned in spraying pesticide other were cleaning the area, some for planting and harvesting.

It takes 11 to 14 months of banana plants to be fully matured and ready to harvest, caring and insuring healthy growth by spreading fertilizer and spraying pesticide to protect from insects that might cause damage , cutting the dry leaves and removing some wedges plants that can bring harm to the Banana plants.

At 6 months the banana start to produce the flowers and it turns to purple petals , this flowers and petals turns to banana bunch , it takes 2 months to wait for the maturation of this banana bunch, this beautiful petals had been called in tagalog "puso"for it's heart shape design ,It can be also used as vegetable foods.

When banana bunch is fully matured workers prop it by bag , to protect from insects and from falling down because it becomes heavy specially if it grows healthy. This can be export and import products.

thank you @hkniazi

Nice post sis but there is a BIG problem now in that area. Maganda at marami tayong banana plantations sa Mindanao lalo na banda sa amin sa Davao. But you know what's the problem now in that plantation in Mount Apo area? Mindanao never experienced FLOOD but because of these greedy businessmen that even Mt. Apo area were planted with bananas, ang nakakaawang Cotabato area has now experiencing FLOODS since the Liwasang Mars is also silted. That is the big problem now of DENR and the Mindanaoans.

I love bananas! Ganyan pala process ng pagtanim at harvest ng bananas.. Thanks for the info! May natutunan na naman ako hehe

😍😍😍
