A FRIEND FROM JAPAN

Friends are one of the most important things in our lives. As the saying goes “no man is an island”. Friends are the ones who gave you strength on your weakest point in life and they also can brighten your day when you really needed light.

I am glad that I get to have friends in my life. Some of them are true but I am sure others are not. Well, the most important thing is. I have some true friends. They are small in numbers but then who needs many when you can count on few?

One friend that I cannot forget is my friend from another country. She was the first but hopefully, she won’t be the last. It’s nice to have friends from other countries as they let you see their world and let you see the beauty in the place that is located miles away from you.

It was year 2014 when I first met her. Her mother’s family is my neighbor. Actually, it was their house but when they are in Japan as they live there permanently, for now, they let the family of her sister’s mother live there. One time they stayed there for almost 6 months after her father’s death that is why I get to know her.

She’s 16 at the time we met but she seems to be acting like a little younger than her age. She acts a bit strange too. Maybe it’s because she’s my very first ever foreign friend and she’s from another country. She is very beautiful. She knew how to talk a little bit Bisaya but then it’s still really hard to understand her when she talks. She often talks about her crushes, boys and the things she’s been doing here and in Japan.

Sometimes she comes into our small house and then sometimes she invites me to their house too. Her house is very huge. Thrice the space of our house. I felt awkward being there but then she makes you feel comfortable when she sees you’re uncomfortable.

I miss her. It’s been a while since they have visited their house. It’s empty now too. I heard that her mother and the sister of her mother have misunderstandings that is why no one is living in their house now. We rarely talked on Facebook as she is busy now taking care of her 2 kids and the time gap also makes it hard to talk and video call. But despite that, I know that she will always be here in my heart and I am excited for her next visit in the Philippines.
