On February 16, 2018, GMA News (24 Oras) released a feature about how Ms. Janice Hung empowered the students from St. Louis College of Valenzuela. [link of full video below]
Ms. Janice Hung was invited as a special guest in the 40th Foundation Day of the said school last February 10, 2018. She was asked to have a Wushu Performance to make the event even more exciting and memorable.

Wushu is a form of Chinese Martial Arts which can be practiced with or without weapons. Weapons that can be used include the sword, cudgel, spear, staff and a lot more. Wushu is popularized by Hollywood stars like Jet Li and Donnie Yen. It is also used in movies like Kung Fu Panda, Charlie’s Angels and Star Wars.

Wushu is beneficial not only physically, but also mentally, and emotionally.
“Aside from learning the forms, stances, the jumping skills, balancing techniques, you would learn the values like being dedicated, being determined, being disciplined,” she said during the interview.

Ms. Janice Hung did not only perform Wushu but also delivered an inspirational talk. The students were able to connect with her quickly since they were familiar with her already, seeing her in the TV series, Encantadia. She shared about her journey in Wushu, the challenges she overcame and how hard she worked before she was able to become a 10-time Gold Medalist and International Wushu Champion. She encouraged the students to dream big and pursue their dreams. With conviction, she said, “Never ever give up because the only time you fail is when you give up.”

“I saw the Philippine Wushu Team perform and then from that day on I decided that I will become a Wushu champion and now it’s my way of giving back because I wanna motivate these kids to dream big, to pursue their passion,” Ms. Hung shared in the interview.

Ms. Janice finds fulfillment in helping the youth and adding value in their lives. A few years ago, she started a foundation and conducted several charity programs like the Muzikademy, feeding programs, Wushu kids, and a lot more.
In 2017, Ms. Janice Hung founded and developed the uDEFEND Project. It is a self-defense program which integrates the forms of Tai Ji and Wushu into a complete and individual system. The project aims to educate and empower women and children. The goal is to improve the quality and safety in our communities by providing practical and accessible self-defense training with martial arts values to the venerable sectors of society.

As a way of paying forward, through the uDEFEND Project, Ms. Janice Hung teaches public school students self-defense for free. As we know, these are the people who do not have the means to enroll in such program. Children are also the target of attackers since they are perceived to be weak. Through this advocacy, these children will be equipped to defend themselves in times of need.

This year, she will be conducting more uDEFEND projects in different public schools in the Philippines through the support of friends, donors, sponsors and volunteers. This way, more and more children will be equipped to defend, strike and survive.
