To take a break from our daily life some of my volunteer friends and I decided to travel. I want to share some great moments and places we've experienced with you, I hope you enjoy it :)
For the first few days it was just my friend Robin and me. He is also a German volunteer placed in Bacolod, Negros (an island western of Cebu where I am living). Actually he was the only person I knew before who will come with me to the Philippines. We both met at a preparation seminar back in Germany. I was so happy that we could finally see each other again and travel together after 6 months in this country.
Our first destination was Monjuyod sandbar near Bais City, Negros.
We both took the bus to Dumaguete and met at the Bus terminal.
It's very easy to get from Cebu there. Just go to the south bus terminal and search for the bus heading to Dumaguete. The bus will drive on the ferry where you get off and have to pay the fee. When you arrive on Negros you just get in the Bus again and it drives directly to Dumaguete.
I took the Bus at 6:45 and arrived there around 1pm.
After walking on the beautiful bay-walk we decided to take our lunch in one of the foreign restaurants. And indeed they had German dishes. We were so happy. Robin had Spätzle (a special kind of egg noddle paired with cheese) and I had a really huge Schnitzel (fried pork). It was delicious!!!
After eating we took the bus to Bais where we checked in in our hotel. Furthermore we met with Denise another Austrian volunteer placed in Bais. We had Barbecue for dinner. If you don't have an idea about Filipino barbecue and if you like you can check it out https://steemit.com/philippines/@m1r1/barbecue-filipino-style
On the next morning we had to wake up really early because we booked a dolphin watching tour. But we couldn't see other dolphins than those on the picture. It was really windy and the waves where to heavy, that's why our tour guides brought us immediately to the Manjuyod sandbar.
It was just 7am and we were the only people on the sandbar. The one who you see on the picture were about to leave the place. They stayed overnight in one of the huts in the middle of the sea. - what an unique experience, if we just had known...
We took a walk what turned out not to be as easy as we thought. The wind and the current weren't easy opponents. Exhausted and still tired we lay down in one of the huts and took a rest.
The view was breathtaking.
After an hour we got company. The first tourist boots headed to the sandbar.
We were kind of lucky to have this place just for ourselves.
Soon more and more boats arrived. But not just tourists, fishers as well who tried to sell their morning prey.
Suddenly Robin said to me Let's try something new. I am gonna buy a shell
After a while he got back It's so expensive he wants 200 Pesos, I haggled it to 150 I said yes sure it's fine with me. I accompanied him this time and instead of giving us the expected one shell the fisherman gave us everything he had catched. We felt so bad that we haggled so much but he insisted to give us everything.
We asked the man how can we eat it, just break the shells?
He told us to cook it first. But of course we had no idea how to. Moreover we were in the middle of the sea so how could we even cook them? The next fisherman came and offered us fresh squid. When he noticed the shells he offered to cook everything for us when we buy the squid. So we did. We told him to bring it to us at around 12.
He really cooked it on his small boat and brought it to us. Believe me it was so delicious how it looks like! But again the wind and the waves were obstacles. Suddenly our sauce was all over our boat. The wind blew it away. We had difficulties to protect our food and drinks as well. We even lost some of our rice.
I never took my lunch under such difficult conditions. Nevertheless it was amazing! Eating fresh seafood in the middle of the sea is an unique experience.
With full tummies we lay down on the boat and enjoyed the swinging of the waves.
During my stay here in the Philippines many of my plans didn't push through how I planned them. But when I look back it turns out that the not expected things were the best ones.
I've wanted to visit manjuyod for a while now! Thanks for sharing! Ive always wondered how people ate there. Now i know! 😁

It was beautiful there even if the sun wasn't out. I can just imagine what a paradise it must be on a sunny day. Haha yes of course you can bring your own food but I would definitely recommend to try the delicious fresh squid :)

I have some friends there too so mostly we just went out with them. I can recommend you the waterfalls by mambukal, and a trip to gemuiras island! Sipalay is also nice for a camping trip, a few hours south. We went there to sugar beach, but the beach it self is not so beautiful. In summer it looks better they said but it is very peaceful!

I’ve been here too! I booked a dolphin watching and Manjuyod Sandbar on a same day!
The dolphins were really lively when I got there so I was able to see lots of them. Although the weather is a bit cloudy during that day, I still also managed to see Manjuyod Sandbar.
Did you go anywhere after your trip here?

I just had a day tour at the island, but I did a lot of snorkeling. How about you? It could be in Malabuyoc, Cebu although I think there are other parts of Cebu where you can do dolphin watching!

We stayed there for 2 nights and I loved it. We had no rush to see and do everything on one day. The island is a paradise for scuba diving!
Thank you very much for your tip:)
