Crafts of Life
I love fishing and I'd love to go out and take you with me sometime. What I use is the regular fishing pole but what I'd love to try out is the fish traps made from bamboo and nylon twine. These are still used in some parts of the country. What they do is they drop it in the ocean and leave it there until the next day. Without any modern technology or GPS it is amazing how they know where they left the traps. It will trap large fish and allow the smaller ones to escape to give them time to grow.
Using these are more environmentally friendly to our nature rather than using plastic traps. Also traps made from natural materials seems to be favored by the fishes.
This is a rice winnowing tray made from rattan and bamboo. This is used in cleaning rice in the province and I remember that we used to have one like this. Rice is sifted on this tray to remove rice husk and other foreign materials.
Traditional hats are also made from plant materials. Materials include anahaw leaves, bamboo, rattan, buri and nito. Hats also tells a lot about our culture and influences.
Some furniture made from plant materials are also very popular. Abaca is popularly used as it is very durable material and is preferred by designers all over.
Another popular material is the nipa palm. Used as roofing materials for huts, baskets and hats. They grow along coastlines and mangrove muddy areas.
Thanks for joining me today and I hope you like the weaved stuff from mother nature.
I'm sure other countries has weaved stuff as well feel free to share and leave a comment. Cheer!

This just made me realize that the Philippines still sticks with tradition despite the advancement of technology and I mean that in a good way. This is so fresh to look at when most things you can see now are machineries and hard metals. This country really is amazing 🇵🇭
