Mediocrity Is Humanity's Biggest Enemy

When you know you could've done something better but you didn't, most likely, you'll be left with some unsatisfied feeling of incompleteness. When you know you could operate at your highest potential level but your partner, friends or family told you to just keep it down a little and never risk too much, most likely, you'll feel that you didn't test your limits, going beyond your boundaries.

Mediocrity is one of the cardinal problems that could cripple our society to achieve greatness and immortality (in the sense of leaving your legacy). Friedrich Nietzsche, one of the most influential thinker and philosopher proposed in his book, Thus Spoke Zarathustra, the philosophical allegory of Ubermensch.

Ubermensch is an archetype (not being bound by gender, it could be man or woman), the overman, superman, the sole entity who would destroy any previous useless value by create new powerful ones. Ubermensch's will to power would embrace him/her to accept the earthly world with arms wide open, without having to worry about the dogma, stigma of the uninitiated. Ubermensch is the initiated.

Some thinkers would relate the philosophy of Ubermensch to the philosophical implementation of anarchism and Nazism. But this Superman concept is a tool pointed at both ends. Hitler used this Ubermensch concept as the tool of power to give rise to Aryan nation, in which Hitler perceived as biologically superior to other races.

Proposing Ubermensch as an antidote to propel humanity toward another level of civilization would be a big question we should ponder. Some might say that this would create an enormous sense of radical individualism, giving rise to more egoistic people. But no great revolutions were made without sacrifices, a single radical anomaly, the outliers who would drive human to evolve beyond themselves.

Rest assured, mediocrity would put people to rest on their laurel, being so sure they could survive in today's world that changes so rapidly. Comfort zone is a death ground for humanity.
