What State Is Your Mind In Right Now?

The States Of Our Mind

Without us even knowing it, our brains perform a countless amount of calculations and functions. With this, our minds can get quite cramped and life can feel confusing. When was the last time that you had some mixed emotions and thoughts fighting for the attention of your mind while you were trying to focus on something else entirely?

I will explain the three stages our mind enters while we are feeling these emotions.

Our Engaged Mind

This state of mind is when you are completely immersed in what you are doing right now. We activate our engaged mind when completely present in a conversation possibly you reading this post right now. When your mind and thoughts are totally focused on the current moment, that is your engaged mind. People who can engage in their daily lives, rather than zoning in and out of focus, are usually happier. Some research suggests that your engaged mind reduces the stress hormone cortisol.

Our Automatic Mind

Our brain is constantly doing things without us even knowing it. For instance, whenever there is a change in environment, we do not have to physically scan the area to know that there has been a change in lighting or that you are in pain, your brain does that for you. Our brain effortlessly makes judgements and evaluations about anything and can label them negative or positive without a conscious effort. We form habits from memories and questions that build up in our brain and come out when we least expect it. I classify this as our automatic brain. It is always calculating and scanning our surroundings without us doing anything

Our Analytic Mind

This is the hardest working part of our mind. We are self-aware beings, we have the ability to alter our thoughts and feelings. We can manipulate the information stored in our minds. This is the part of the mind that helps us solve problems. All of the complex reasoning is done with the analytic mind.

Mastering Your Mind

Break down and understand the different parts and functions that your mind contains. This will help us better understand the state our mind is in at a specific mind. For instance, during important or fun events, our minds should be engaged or when there is a problem to be solved, our analytic mind should be activated. Our automatic mind is practically on at all times.
