Platonic Love - Is That More?

in philosophy •  7 years ago

What is Platonic love? We must first know that before we can talk about a Platonic relationship. The concept of Platonic love comes from Plato, a Greek philosopher. As I wrote in ' Does true love really exist? ', there was a division into three kinds of love in ancient Greek culture. Where the so-called agape love is the highest form.

Now we know that this has something to do with our chemistry. You can find that in my article ' love and sex '. That aside.

But beyond about platonic love. This means something else than with agape love. It means a form of love without any sexual contact or even desires. And according to Plato, that was only reserved for the most developed and elevated people. In his time: philosophers! Read here exactly how it was.

Now we use the concept of platonic love to reassure our partner if, for example, we have a lot of contact with someone from the other (or in case of gay, the same) sex at our work or the sports club. "It is only platonic, you know, nothing suggests."

Does Platonic Love still exist?
But are we still capable of that? Can we deal with someone a lot without feeling attracted? First and foremost, that we are dealing with someone we find attractive?

Look, there we go! We do not, of course, have a problem with someone whom we do not find attractive. And that is not certain. You can become friends so that you are amazed that you suddenly find the other person attractive, even though that was not the case at first.

Platonic love has been replaced by lust and desire in our current Western culture. In any case, there is more to be found and to earn more, do not forget that.

Who knows, the ship will turn the ship and another time will come when we once again value platonic love. Would I appreciate that? As one of the possibilities, but all other forms of love may remain, please!
