The aspect of my life that I constantly struggle with is going too hard at anything I enjoy. I burn myself out, get overly excited or anxious, and I set myself up every time.
It can be reading a book I like a lot through the night and not getting enough sleep to function the next day.
It can be finding a new hobby and getting lost in it and eventually ruining the enjoyment of it.
It can be emotionally as well. Expecting too much of somebody in a relationship. Expecting too much out of a situation. Getting my hopes up. Disappointment follows.
It doesn't have to be dissapointment, it can be sadness, anger, frustration, confusion etc. It really doesn't matter the emotion, the general feeling is terribly crappy and negative.
My latest addiction, indeed, has definitely been Steemit. I want to be on it as much as possible (Lost wi-fi recently, poor me). I want to write as much as possible.
Being on any site too much is unhealthy. Constantly wanting to write and my quality of writing can suffer. I believe it has, which compounds my negative feelings. Writer's block I guess.
Either way I realize I cannot keep living my life this way. It is beyond stressful. I need to meditate. Moderation is something I need to take seriously.
I remember in grade school we had a very interesting talk about moderation. Maybe it wasn't that interesting to many, but with my passionate personality I listened and it stuck with me.
Legendary NFL quarterback Peyton Manning says to 'never get too high or too low on yourself'. I love that quote. Can't beat myself up too much or give myself too much praise.
Moderation in life, I believe, will benefit my mental health greatly. I believe if I practice more moderation in every aspect of life I can achieve more and be happier.
I believe many people can relate. Anybody could probably use more moderation in life.
Many people in my generation are addicted to very nasty drugs or alcohol. I believe moderation should be preached more to these kids. Maybe don't do the drugs, but if you do make that choice, maybe don't take ten pills in one night of that drug.
Anyway, the point is I believe thinking about moderation in day-to-day life can help people make more healthy decisions and be happier. I know I really struggle with it at times but maybe writing and sharing it to the world will help me. Maybe somebody else will benefit greatly from hearing these words.
Steem on folks.
