Maybe there was more to the saying "Far out man!" from the 60s and 70s than we thought...

Fictional mental musings about the working of the mind. Is it more than we think? The answer to that is almost certainly YES, however, do any of these weird ideas I am about to discuss have any merit?

Contemporary Mind

In the contemporary world as we know it we consider all thought to be housed inside this mass known as the brain within our skull. It communicates with the rest of our body via electro-chemical impulses within the nervous system in our body. The spinal chord which is shielded within the spine is like the information super highway that links our brain to the rest of our body.

We know that fundamentally this is a very accurate description. We can test this by applying stimuli at various positions within the nervous system. We can witness the results of spinal chord damage at various regions and see the outcome. We can map activity within the brain by increases in electro-chemical activity from MRIs and other scanning techniques.

So we do know these things. We know they have merit. We know that fundamentally these things hold some truth.

So why did I call this fiction? I'll tell you why... I am going to now go off of the proverbial reservation and into the realm of the weird and hypothetical.

More than the brain

We've stated that our memories and knowledge and essentially everything that makes us what we are in terms of thought, personality, reflexes, perhaps soul, etc all reside within the brain. The rest of our body is but an extension of this. The vehicle to give us mobility and a way to physically interact with the world.

Could this be false? I do think there may be some strange evidence that this could be false.

Have you considered the stories about people that receive a transplant of an organ as acquiring new interests, personality traits, foods they like, foods they dislike, etc.? This seems to be an outlier situation and I do not know how common it is. Yet if this indeed is occurring that would be a strong indicator that information, personality, and more may be stored in other cells besides those that simply reside within our brain.

This does not seem to be mass quantities of information for all experiences still show plenty of evidence that the bulk of what makes you and I who we are is tied to the brain.

In the case of the transplant patients taking on traits of the donor this is known as the Cell Memory Phenomena. A common question that comes up is simply this... Do hearts have memories?. Yet, there are of course skeptics and challengers to this Cell Memory Theory.

For the purposes of this particular blog journey let's consider that there may be something to this.

Far Out

Could it be there are other ways knowledge is stored? We know that in quantum mechanics that particles respond to the focus and attention of the observer.

How? Why?

If something external to us responds to our thoughts and observation could that possibly indicate that something of us is actually outside of our body?

Could our body in some sense be more like a device designed to accept signals and project signals? Could our brain be in many ways something akin to an antenna?

Could some of what makes you and I what we are actually be FAR OUT there?

Our brains have folds much like our increasingly effective antennas are folded following a fractal design. It has increased the range of our antennas for devices such as cell phones. Could it be more than simply efficiency of storage in our brain? Could it be possible that our brain also is folded in some fractal design to increase our ability to interact with signals of an electromagnetic, or as yet undiscovered particle or energy?

If you think the answer to this is possibly... then think about that for awhile.

Think about some of the things people say are not real. Could this explain some of those things?

You receive far too little compensation for the creativity you bring.

I think that eyesight is akin to picking up signals as a radio would. If you see a tornado 5 miles away you respond accordingly. Can this translate to brain activity? Again music and also frequencies we cannot hear can cause some strange reactions.

I don't know exactly where I stand on this, but I do find it quite fascinating!

Very interesting!!

Yes, nothing is real, the mind is outside the brain, seems I should write a reply to this post and so many others!
You might agree that right here is right here. So is far out right here as well?

Far out and Far in may be the same thing if it is a simulation. ;)

Yes, it's all relative.
