One should persue to better himself. When striving to beat others there can only be one winner. You'll get demotivated easily when comparing your skills to that of professionals and the sense of rivarly and jealousy will not imrpove your wellbeing either.
When striving to improve from yesterdays you, motivation will come easier, since bettering yourself is far more realistic and easier to comprehend in the short term. You'll find joy and fulfillment a lot easier. You'll find it easier to a certain task each day and eventually become what you've never thought you could achieve.
