Monkey See, Monkey Do.

Be yourself. Everybody else is mistaken.

Why would you want to be like anybody else in the first place? Even if you feel like you do, it's just a false impression. It's just the result of you seeing the world from a different viewpoint. Maybe it's just you not wanting to be you anymore. That's a false impression as well; only you can command yourself, thus you could be anything you want potentially. It's up to you to make that person who you want them to be. You are the only person in the world that you can influence that much and shape who they actually are. That is practically possible; being somebody else is not.

Why would you blindly trust another person more than you trust yourself? You're the only person you can totally control. You're the only person you can get to know that well. We all keep learning as we age; a never ending process. We grow up only to realize that we actually needed time to get to know ourselves better. As the years go by, we're given the chance to realize our misconceptions about ourselves through wrong decisions and regret. ''Be careful what you wish for, cause you just might get it.'' That speaks volumes. You're given the chance to know yourself better by achieving what you once wished upon, only to realize that it's not what you actually needed.

Life proves that way the fact that you can't even be sure about yourself. Human nature. So how can you be sure you truly want to be that other person you admire? What about all the details you know nothing about concerning their life? People see ''successful'' people and think their lives are undoubtedly happy and fortunate. You know little to nothing about them, even if you think you know them pretty well. I've got news: they don't even know themselves. Even if they did, they wouldn't like themselves. They would want to be you, who wants to be them. Human nature. We're never satisfied with what we possess. Only the impossible could provide satisfaction.

See the problem with the world is that everyone is trying to be somebody else. Meanwhile nobody ever tries to see the world through the other's eyes. We do copy each other even in negative ways. Just like monkeys, we just do things. We see them, we do them, no questions asked. Nobody ever wonders why we're all exhibiting the same periodic patterns. ''If everybody is doing it, it can't be wrong, right?''. Oh, yes it can! They're all wrong. Don't listen to them. Don't follow anyone. Everybody has been conditioned to support various beliefs blindly, to keep them working like slaves all day long until they're too old, in order to generate a currency and pay debt created to buy things they don't actually need with money they don't actually have. And that's because they're all copying each other. Society needs you to be a monkey.

It's an instinct of survival. Babies observe everything and everyone in the house and try to mimic their moves, words or habits. It's also a mechanism of progress. People share the solution to a problem so that others won't have to waste time searching for answers. If somebody else is succeeding in what you keep failing to achieve, you can just study their methods and improve. Tutors basically teach you how to act in a certain way in order to get the desired results, a formula developed based on observing success and trying to copy the process. The benefits of being a monkey.

Unfortunately there's also an uncivilized way to borrow somebody else's intelligence or methods. It's called theft and it's shameless. See, we live in a world with too many lazy people having little to no dignity, and at the same time huge aspirations as a result of watching too many Hollywood movies. Those aspirations can be perceived as willingness to copy one's lifestyle or routine. But success demands hard work and hard work is by definition... hard! It's always easier to steal work. It's easier to have the job done for you. It's easier to not use your own brain. It's comforting to be a monkey.

Too many ''authors'' still exist only because of this survival mechanism of adapting to one's environment and absorbing all its characteristics in order to avoid extinction. ''You can't really lose if you enjoy defeat.'' Inevitably, the whole concept of copying one another is spreading like a disease. It's contagious due to human nature and reason. People are always in pursuit of something, so they look for shortcuts. If you made it and they know you did, then they know a way to make it. Monkeys don't have a big ego. And this doesn't mean they choose to not be arrogant and over-confident; they just don't care! They don't care if you think they're cool or smart or ''successful''. They don't care if you single them out from a crowd. They don't care who gets the props about the banana supply that just came in. They just want to eat some bananas.

I sincerely apologize to monkeys. I just wanted to prove a point. I know they did nothing that terrible to deserve to be compared to humans.

@sbyse Thanks for taking the time to read and comment!

You're absolutely right. Rather than trying to be someone else, we should actively try to become the best versions of ourselves. I am slowly learning that I have the power to change things I don't like about myself.

@philnewton Agreed! Thanks for your input.
