What happened with Stefan?steemCreated with Sketch.

I've been following Stefan Molyneux for a while on twitter now, trying to keep up with the ideas he likes to share these days. To be honest, as time passes I keep on wondering what happened to the philosophies he once spoke of, and how is it that he became what I can only describe as a provocateur.

There's quite a few videos and speeches that he's done that I've quite enjoyed thouroughly, which is probably the reason why I'm quite conflicted these days. All of the sudden, the self proclaimed anarcho-capitalist is supporting bigger government and up until recently, defended Trump with a passion that I found misplaced.

His recent tweets and scandals don't necessarily invalidate his intellectual contributions, but it does make you wonder how we got here. How someone who is obviously of above average IQ, can also fail to calculate the inconsistencies in his positions.

He's probably known by most due to a video that became viral almost a decade ago: "The Story of your enslavement" - A philosophical journey into what anarcho-capitalists see as the fundamental problem with governments and the current power dynamics.

So honestly, What happened?

I wish I had an answer to this, but it seems like no matter where I look, no answer seems to reveal the whole picture. All of the sudden the conversations became about race and IQ and for someone who considers himself to be all about facts and statistics, failing to take the whole picture into account sounds intellectually dishonest.

I will warn anyone who is easily triggered by these topics to proceed with caution. I find it completely pointless o demonize anyone just because they hold different beliefs and online trolling, which is what most who oppose his recent positions, is unlikely to bare any fruit.

What I'm really trying to figure out is What is the goal here? Because his activities as of late seem calculated, and with the clear objective of triggering people.

As you can see, a recent tweet of him made me react a bit and not because I expect him to answer me directly, but just because I hope at least one person sees the logical inconsistency being put forth. If I'm all about freedom, why would I then impose my world view on others? Why would I voice my personal ideas as absolute truths, when I know that plenty of people who follow, follow blindly?

I don't know, and I guess it's the motive, the need to have agency, the cloud I can't quite make out, but maybe I'm overthinking this whole thing, like I've done in the past. Maybe Stefan just wants attention, nothing more, nothing less.

He was fantastic in his prime. Christopher Cantwell was top notch too. Then they both went White Nationalist.
Maybe ancap is too small a pond and they wanted a larger audience? Really disappointing.

That's exactly what happened..A/B testing for most number of views with no inhibition from co-opting any garbage philosophy ..

Its a little unnerving to think that a guy can understand voluntaryism so thoroughly and yet choose to espouse something different.

He is trying to make money. His early ideas have become less popular and now he has found a group of people that are currently in power in the USA that he can profit from.

I think the line often becomes blurred in the mind of those that achieve a sense of influence given their following. It could lead to having the efforts being well intentioned but misunderstood.

You were certainly the voice of reason in that exchange.

Weird.

I don't know this person but that does seem like an odd reversal.

A woman without children is like a man without work.

So, I guess in his opinion the world isn't overpopulated and we should continue to breed like a cancerous tumor on this planet until the end of time?

Even when you ignore his offensive gender hegemony the argument makes zero sense. It really does seem crafted to evoke conflict during the rising tide of political correctness.

PS

Searching Google images for the word 'provocateur' is not helpful.
:D

Hahahhahaa I won't Google it my friend

I feel like he become one of those who see clicks, views and mentions become more important than the content and the messaging itself!
