Friction da Vida (The Friction of Life)

in philosophy •  6 years ago  (edited)

In life it seems we are the victims of our instincts.
We are led by it, driven by it.

Hope plays a part. We are eternally hopeful: we think things will be alright.

Yet we lead humdrum lives, full of drama of the wrong sort.

Only three things can influence us: Nature, people and us (we can harm or do good to ourselves): so drama of the wrong sort…the drama we inflict on others, the trouble we create for ourselves.

And yet perhaps there is a fourth option, a fourth thing that influences us: our very existence on this Earth; our very living on this is Earth is perhaps an effort…like moving through sludge, an effort that is tiring and at the end leaves you tired.

In the movie Dead Pool the main character Wade says: “Here's the thing. Life is an endless series of train-wrecks with only brief, commercial-like breaks of happiness. This.., had been the ultimate commercial break. Which meant it was time to return to our regularly scheduled program.”

And General Jannie Geldenhuys refers in his book “A General’s Story. From an Era of war and Peace” on the friction of war, where untold millions of factors often unseen can influence the war machine and even grind it to a halt. And this is true of life with the friction da vida and its untold millions of things that influence it can slow us down, bog us down and even stop us entirely.
