ONE SIMPLE GOAL

in philosophy •  7 years ago

This has been a consuming thought over the years, so I share it to hopefully encourage you.

Simply put, each minute that passes us by will never return. Often we can see where others have ended up, and it is frequently how they spent their minutes prior to where they now are that plays a role. For better or worse, it can be a true story.

HOW TO LIVE LIFE... A SIMPLE THOUGHT

Time and time again, as I interact with those from previous generations, one thing that pops up is regret. There seem to be a lot of things that others would have done differently back in their day. This is interesting to contemplate.

Part of the "problem" with people is that we have become too short sighted. Often we are so concerned about today, tomorrow, or this weekend that we don't think very far into the future. There are a lot of variables in life and a lot of factors to take into consideration, but ultimately we all only have one chance at this.

What will be your regrets as you lie on your deathbed? Will you wish that you would have spent more time watching television? Will you dream of how your life would have turned out if you only would have spent more time at the office? Seriously, what will you regret? Once you figure that out, then decide on what you are going to do about it now to set your self up to miss out on all that regret.

You see, I desire one thing, but it takes concentration and effort. To put it simply:

I want to live my PRESENT

so that in the FUTURE

I will not regret my PAST.

It will be the things in our past that lead to where we end up in the future, and the only tool that we have to try to fix it is the present. I know my goals and my desires, and I am on a constant task of living out my present in the best way I can to hope for the future. I do not always succeed, but at least I am thinking about the future.

It is my hope that this will add some fuel to your fire, and encourage you to think more long-term. Life is kind of like a choose your own adventure game, so choose wisely!

Until next time…

I want to live my PRESENT

so that in the FUTURE

I will not regret my PAST.

What a great deep words to reflect on.

Thank you for this @papa-pepper, I was reflecting myself while reading your blog. So true, because for my situation I was stagnant for a year, doing nothing. But now, I opened my mind to think for my future. Asking myself why am I doing on the past years. That phrases "I want to live my PRESENT
so that in the FUTURE
I will not regret my PAST.
"
This is so inspiring.

That is amazing. It's always nice to see people relate to things and apply it. Forward it the only way to go, and it is so nice to see you decide that. I wish you all the best. You will be fine.

Good morning from here in Nigeria

I am glad that you like it! It is almost midnight here, so I can still say "Good night from the Ozarks!"

Very good motivation. I do not always succeed, at least I have thought or prepared for my future. I am very impressed with these words. Stop wasting time while having a chance. Always in doing good, for we will surely end our journey even though we never know it when, but it is certain. Thank you for making us more excited. You always give us the best example. May always be successful for you @papa-pepper.

Simple goals are the best... great advice!

Yeah, I need to keep it simple!

I am living in the future of my past presently regretting the past while constantly working to ensure in the future I won’t regret the past of this present. ;)

I love this great words@papa-pepper, you such a great mentor, a teacher. God bless your wisdom more.

Some people are willing to help but no gas in their car to move on, but some people just don't want others to survive for a day. What a bad idea and practices. But the best is trying to male others happy for who they are.

This is words from a wise man
Thanks for this wonderful heads up

Well said @papa-pepper.
I want to live my present so that I won't regret in the future..

Thank you @lizbethk!

I'm one of those people that likes to help others. I would probably do a little more for myself, as some advise me to. Who looks out for those that look out for others? Know what I mean? :)

I do know what you mean, and finding that balance can be difficult. I too like to look out for others, but we have to be careful not to do it to the point that our own families are neglected. Thanks!

Yes i agree totally @papa-pepper . To be mindful and connected with the one's innerself so that one can live in the present is the best thing one can do to himself

It is very nice, for the future we must be better than the past, that's the best for us and we'll live happily @papa-pepper

Existence in present
Regrets of Past can only be avioded if we start living in present. There are so many things going around in this digital global world that people tend to make so many plans considering future and they miss chance of tasting present blessings.

As I am now in my seventies I can appreciate what you are saying, but it is not always that easy. I have things in my past that I now regret, but at the time they seemed to be the correct thing to do. With hindsight I now know different, but hindsight isn't available in the present.

Yes, I completely know what you mean. I feel that if the previous generations were more honest about their mistakes, then it would be easier for those who are willing to listen to not repeat them. Some time ago I spoke at a "Family Conference" and shared an "honest testimony" which was pretty much what I had learned from my previous mistakes. Hopefully, it helped some others. Here are the two videos from that in case anyone is interested.

"I want to live my present, so that in the future I don't regret my past."
This one seems to be the main quote that we should follow in our life.
When you get a chance, take a look at the book called "The four agreements".
Have a nice day!

Thanks @papa-pepper for this beautiful dose, I love them so well.
Theugh I've not got to where I am going, but I am far from where I was coming from.
Trying to correct your past with your present is tantamount to one waisting the present.
If we can just let go of the past, and live the present as if nothing was wrong with our past. Then, we would be happy for the rest of our days.

This is it!. Absolutely spot on. The past has a way of robbing us of the present, and the future. If we spend today, lamenting yesterday, we will definitely spend tomorrow, lamenting today. The past will always remain the past, and there is nothing we can do to change it. The past is best left where it is; the past. That is why the windshield of a car is so big, and the rear is so small. We can learn from the past, but the future is the bigger picture. We cannot go back to make a brand new start, but we can always make a happy ending. Well done Papa for your inspiring words as always. You know how to always get me pumped up. Well done sir.

If we spend today, lamenting yesterday, we will definitely spend tomorrow, lamenting today

Excellent illustration! Thanks for sharing it man!

Thank you Papa. You inspired it sir.

Live like a wheel but must be optimistic that I must reach better, and the Time has gone can not be pursued again. I will use the time now to welcome a better future. thanks @papa-pepper very motivate me @mukhtarilyas to keep thinking positive.

I am inspired!

Greetings!

Tell the people in your life that you love them! Show that you love them by spending time with them. Carry no grudges. Easily forgive! Live each day like iris your last!
Great post!

Amen to that!

Thanks for the fuel. I'll try and burn it wisely.

Short but encouraging, thanks for the good word today @papa-pepper

You are welcome. In case you are interested, I shared a video in another comment on this post. You may enjoy it.

Thanks for thinking that...I will check them out!

I see that I'm on the right track. It is impossible to regret the past, it takes time and effort. When you make plans and live the future and the present, then life is even more interesting!
