Collectivism Vs. Individual Thought

in philosophy •  6 years ago

I am making this video to sort of follow up my thought experiment about philosophy and bring up this idea in the current political atmosphere where people are largely subscribing to collectivism and tirbal loyaltly over having an actual opninion. Though Kanye West went about showing this very untactfully, he did bring light to this issue. We are seeing this more and more with politics, but it's reflected in our cultural war and almost everything nowadays. It's dangerous because this lack of individual critical thought is what enabled dangerous organizations to come into power because when we evaluate information for ourselves, we may rely on someone purely becasue we believe they are good or refute something purely because we believe they are bad which is a logical fallacy: the argument of inertia.

Yeah exactly, and it's easy to fall prey to this because then one person speaks for the group and says or else you're not actually in our group/tribe

Good subject.
Most of our differences in religion and politics can be reduced to the battle between collectivism and individualism.
It's important. It's counter-intuitive, but it's actually individualism that evolves humanity upward. Collectivism tend to drag us down to genocide and ignorance.

you are very very right!
