The Collective Consciousness.

in philosophy •  7 years ago

One idea that has always intrigued me is that our minds are all connected - a collective consciousness. This idea is nothing new and has been explored many times by many forms of science and philosophy yet we are no closer to realizing any truths about the matter.

Wikipedia states that collective consciousness is:

“The set of shared beliefs, ideas and moral attitudes which operate as a unifying force within society.”

We see ourselves as individuals, as separate beings in a vast open world exploring our reality with unique views and attitudes occasionally coming together the merge our ideas and create wonderful things. Well maybe we are not quite so unique and individual.
This idea has been challenged in science with the phenomenon known as 'The Multiples Effect.'
This idea questions the fact that people geographically isolated from one another are able to come up with the exact same discovery at the exact same time. There have been a number of breakthroughs that appear to have been discovered at the same time by different people, but one that stands out from the rest is that of the pyramids.

How is it that 3 very different cultures a world apart are able to have the same creative ideas? You could argue that even in ancient times civilizations would traverse the globe and transfer information between each other. However, what if there was a vast network of nodes interacting with one an other and sharing information on a grand scale.

We see this pattern of nodes in a network all over nature, from the grandest scale of the universe to our own brain and now in the decentralized blockchain.
The idea of a network plays a massive role in our existence and could even explain the origins of our species.

Below we see 2 images. On the left is a simulation of the universe. On the right is an image from an electron microscope of a mycelium network.

Research into the evolution of man has showed the possibility that all animals are in fact descended from fungi with the separation occurring over 600 million years ago. On a cellular level we are both very similar and of course we use fungi to create some of our medicines.
Mycelium have been around for billions of years, over a billion years before man. These ancient beings operate on a vast network much like our own brain with many more neurons acting to collectively grow and improve the network. They appear to show signs of exploration and organization much like early man did.

The idea of a conscious collective mycelium network as recently been explored in the new Netflix series 'Star Trek Discovery'. Here the idea that everything in existence is connected on this vast network from physical space to our very minds. Now a fictional series is far from scientific proof but the ideas in the show are drawn from reality.

So if we have this network of mycelium nodes that can interact, communicate and expand, can we not say the same for the human mind?
Each mind is a node on a network. We are all the same species and all stem from the same origins. Is it too hard to imagine that our minds are all linked together sharing information like the 'Collective Borg'?

What if events in history were the result of human consciousness collectively designing and executing them. Maybe WW3 occurs simply because we believe that it will.

In any case it is certainly an interesting field that is vastly unknown to us. The similarities in nature are staggering and surely not a matter of coincidence.

Paul Stamets does a lot of research into fungi and how they correlate with humans. He recently appeared on The Joe Rogan Experience which is a great listen if you aver have the time.

I hope you found this post though provoking and I know that I need to brush up on my writing skills. Please leave feedback if you can.

I've had my own thoughts about collective consciousness, and i'd like to think that we all share a connection with each others nodes. sometimes we seem to know what each other is thinking, thinking about someone and having them text you or randomly run into you. it all points to an interconnectedness that we have yet to measure with current philosophies. it's almost like being in the heart of a city and only being able to see the buildings around you. you know the city expands out ward in all directions you just cant see how far it spreads from your centralized position. the city center represents our individual thought processes. and the rest of the city visible only from a birds eye view represents the interconnected nature of human thought a vast network of connections that we have yet to fully explore.

Yes! Exactly. And maybe its not limited to human consciousness. Maybe the city is infinite and all things are connected. However that is far too cosmic to comprehend right now lol LIke you say about thoughts, its like if yours miles away from your gf and she get hurts and you feel it yourself. clearly a connection.

yeah, thats exactly what i was getting at. That all things everywhere have a sort of connection I was learning about quantum computers the other day and i heard about quantum entanglement and its almost like at the atomic level there exist a connection between everything, we just have yet to fully understand how.

yeah quantum entanglement is cool af. Did you read about how they "teleported" a proton?

no, i didn't. do you have a link?

Theres loads of stuff out there man just search 'Quantum teleportation' and 'spooky action'
But as a simple explanation, it doesn't actually teleport it creates a clone and destroys the original but they think that if we ever have star trek tele then that will be how it works. So that raises loads of issues like is the copy really you and all that.

Consciousness seems to be fluid enough to connect one to another especially as evolution proceeds. Fluid enough to move through space or perhaps even creating time and space. The Divine Mystery continues to unfold.

I love the thought of the collective consciousness. It appears in religious stories too... I can read about a Hindu goddess and consider the symbolism of it and find the exact same symbolism on a Christian story or a parable.from the Buddha. Yet we are so subject.to these veils produced by a discriminating mind that would believe us all so different! Resteeming 💗

Oh definitely. like the creation story is basically the same in all beliefs lol Although a cc is a fascinating subject to explore i sometimes find joy exploring the ancient aliens theory. And thank u for the resteem.

I dont believe the ancient aliens theory but I adore reading about it!!!!

When you add that all physical reality is a subjective interpretation of faster light hitting slower light, then the discussion gets really deep. Anyhow, nice post. I've pondered conciousness in the framework of informational systems theory for awhile. Glad you got nominated for curation. You have a tiny typo in the bottom of the post (I have horrible spelling and its how I noticed lol)

haha yes thought. New keyboard :P

I totally agree, it's kinda spooky how it all works out. The universe is a big scary place. There's so much we are yet to discover. I always have these biazzare moments where it'll feel like everythings connected, things to god damn odd to be a coincidence. Strange world

On occasion i have wondered if we are all just puppets in the tentacles of our candida overlords who make us eat more sugar.

Interesting. Great post! One of my favorite books, Power vs. Force, gets into the concept of levels of consciousness and collective consciousness. I find this subject very intriguing.

Yi can't not post this meme now:

We are all connected, therefore collective consciousness exists. It's refreshing to read such a deep post @stevedn3, thank you for sharing your thoughts. I believe that when humanity will finally stop trying to separate through fear, then our awareness will rise and we shall all realize how connected we are. By realizing our connection, we are capable of creating through space and time. Let's not give up on humanity I say, those pyramids are proof that collective consciousness does exist, we just have to open our eyes and co-create!

It's all a grand experiment of discovery. I love this hypothesis! It feels resonant with my experience of life.

Another explanation could be that the locations were not worlds apart. Pangea, the idea that the land masses of the Earth were one, would explain how ancient buildings, ancient tools and ancient burial sites look the same in various location, especially in South America, Africa and Indonesia. The world mar even looks like it was pushed apart and fit back together perfectly.

Based on my own exploration of Metaphysics/Quantum Physics and various spiritual philosophy, I have arrived at my own beliefs on Collective Consciousness. It seems that each individual consciousness/personality originates from the collective as we enter a given reality on a quest for further experience and knowledge. Each individual passes their perceptions back to the collective with the most weight given to information that is the most first-hand and with the greatest impact on that individual. The collective serves as a template for default information about aspects of the reality which the individual does not have their own experience of.
It was interesting that Star Trek and The Borg were mentioned in this article. I have heard that the details of Star Trek were channeled to Gene Roddenberry and many of the unique concepts in the program are based on real things. This includes 'the Prime Directive' along with the concepts behind many of the 'futuristic' technologies. The technology of the transporter room is very similar Stargate technology in the program series of the same name. There was even a Stargate reference in the March 19 post on Benjamin Fulford's blog. Fulford reported that he was told by a CIA contact, "Russian President Vladimir Putin has shut down three “stargates” that were located in Syria. 'Putin is in charge of the stargates there, and this is what really pisses off the cabal. He will not let them be used to escape Judgment Day,'”

I agree completely that we may have some kind of "quorum sensing."
