Why am I reading this just now!

It took me more than 5+ years to realize the following:
"...even if someone is not competent enough to know what is in their own self interest (as defined by themselves), a custodian might not be the best answer, since incapacitation usually comes with a cost in terms of frustration, social standing and self esteem. It is therefore in every case important to weigh all the benefits and costs against each other to arrive at a true optimum."
