Prescription for a stoic philosophy of life from a medical doctor

HomeFix.jpgI've learned about a way of looking at life that will make me happier over the long term. This blog will aim to use my experiences as a doctor to practice a stoic philosophy and through that hope to help others practice it also. By 'using' stoic philosophy, I mean using events (medical and non medical) to reinforce behavior to avoid negative feelings (such as anger, hate, pessimism). I hope to continue to learn more about this way of life through blogging. These should also be short and to the point. Hope people enjoy this!

One way is to imagine if events in front of you are worse then they actually are, and appreciating in the moment that they are not. For example, my house has a leak, that has been difficult to fix, insurance issues, builder issues. I imagined that at least I have a nicer house, that still keeps me dry during the heavy rains, and provides a place for me to be safe. A hurricane could have hit my house in the past year, or knock down a tree in my yard onto my roof, that would have a worse impact on my roof! So, in perspective, the leak is not as bad. You can do this with a lot of things in life, and the end result will make you happier.
