We spend a great deal of out time waiting for things to happen yet, very few utilise the time spent effectively. So many things can be done in the little spaces between the larger events if we actually plan a little or forego a little.
For example, I don't listen to music in the car as I drive, I listen to podcasts. I have done this for quite a few years now as the content I listen to supports my work and I find it much more interesting than the repetitiveness of the radio. When I am at the gym, I do the same. However, when I am at home, I put on some decent music and can have a listen. The difference is the quality of listening experience as in my car and at the gym, the sound is not delivered well enough to really feel the music well, so why bother? A podcast with people speaking though is fine on crappy speakers.
But, the biggest opportunity in the time spent waiting is the possibility and space to think about all kinds of things. Again, I never mean become consumed by though, I mean to use the time to imagine, create, simulate and problem solve issues we may face. The problem could be as simple as 'what to post about today' or, a shopping list for groceries.
Normally though, instead of using the time to do something that support us, we use it to avoid doing anything of consequence. Mobile apps and social media platforms are designed to take our attention away and give us a massive tool of avoidance which we readily turn to so as not to suffer the time between. People do not count all of these things and rather delude themselves by saying "it relaxes me" or "there is no harm in some of it" but, unless we are pretty much where we want to be in life now, it will add up to create stress and harm to us in the future.
So many people I meet have all kinds of complaints about their life or other's yet, they spend their time passively waiting for things to happen or avoiding doing under the guise of relaxation. If the time you spend relaxing doesn't make your quality of action better afterwards, you are doing it wrong and for the most part, this is the case as after the relaxation is over, they are physically and mentally unchanged but, they have less time to act.
Time is a commodity and should be treated as a very finite resource but because it is invisible, we tend not to notice its worth until there is very little time left. Take the time to evaluate how you use your time, where you want to be in this world and be very, very objective.
Afterwards ask the question: Do I have time to wait?
Taraz
[ a Steemit original ]
So much to do and so little time to do it.
This has always been my motto. I try to do as much as I can everyday. I post on the go, I write while I am in a bus on a journey to some place. I read books and interact with people. I don't just keep my day busy... No. I make sure that am not busy doing anything that has no benefit. There must be fruit at the end of all the running around.
I would like to thank steemit for weaning me off facebook, whatsapp, instagram and twitter. If my data is on, it is because of steemit, not because I want to scroll through pictures.
Waiting for the right time means preparation. While you are waiting, you prepare for your expectations. You don't just sit around aimless, waiting to come on stage to do a song you have not rehearsed for. Be prepared at all times and your waiting will be fruitful.
I hope you are doing better @tarazkp and back on your feet?

This is the case that many miss as they do not tie their current actions to purpose.
Yes. I will have a terrible headache for a few days and feel like I have been repeatedly punched but, pretty good otherwise :)

The subject of time to me have never been as important as it is since I joined Steemit. I didn't know its gonna be like this. Since I manage a few groups and give lectures to some about utilizing the platform effectively. Trying to multitask is draining my strength so I only have to focus on things that are quite important to me and set out timetable so I could delegate time for a particular task. I can't say I have strike my balance yet but am working on it.

The process you are going through will teach you a lot about what is valuable I think. Most people assume a tasks worth without investigating whether it is true or not.

Yes. I have come to discover that sometimes, I was busy doing almost nothing. Speed and velocity are two different thing, with velocity, you have a defined direction. And that's what we should all aim at.

Sometimes we confuse waiting with procrastinating, there is fine line, Though sometimes we need patience for things to get in line or connect the dots afterwards, We got treasure time, just as you said. It's the most valuable commodity that once lost, can't be replaced. We always have to make up for the lost time.
It was a good read. Thanks for this one.

I agree, procrastination is different as it is putting off what you know what needs to be done whereas waiting is much more subtle. Can we make up for lost time though? I see it as lost as even when we push harder later, we could have been pushing harder doing something else if we had done that thing earlier :)

You are right, exactly the cost of wasting time, We could always do much better when we never wasted time than when we did. So literally we can't make up for lost time.

Very true. Never thought of it this way though. Time is very important and like they say waits for no one. Do use all of it when you can , as for me i don't have time to wait. Thanks for sharing

Like you i dont listen to music in the car, unlike you though i listen to audiobooks, lets me read about a book a week, pod casts i save for thoses tasks i dislike, chores, lawns, grocery shopping.
Filling in those dead times, productively is as easy as ever with technology.
Once again dead on 😊thanks

I like it. I always remember the phrase "pleasure isn't the same thing as hapiness". Pleasure is something you do and enjoy, but it's short term. I can game for 8 hours straight and have a great time, enjoying myself to the fullest. Will it bring me hapiness? Probably not.. So instead of constantly focussing on short-term pleasure it's important to actively work on long-term hapiness aswell. Should i completely quit gaming? No, of course not. But i'll atleast try to go the the gym for an hour or two for example, because that's where I get the long term benefits from :).

I did. I found it wasn't bringing me the experiential value but I was using it to avoid. I stopped about 5 years ago and have since started a business, have a daughter I spend time with and built my Steemit account from dust. Sometimes I miss it and perhaps one day i will play again but, not yet as I am not where I want to be in some many ways and gaming doesn't support that for me.

Well kudo's for that, since such a change in daily habits requires a lot of perseverance and mentality overall. It's all about life choices, and I'm sure the things you spend your time on now are simply much more rewarding long-term, and that's what matters in the end :)

This is correct. So many of us are very good at wasting our own precious time.a student would have the whole semester to read. Yet he wouldn't untill it is exam time.
Not doing things at the right time or wasting away the time we have to do something productive always leaves us stressed out when we finally want to use limited time to achieve something big. I wonder why people never learn. It is true that they say " all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy" , but when the play becomes too much, you become unproductive and "duller" than you are supposed to be.

Depends how you classify work. I don't consider myself dull, at least in my own eyes yet, 90 percent of my time awake is working at something. Work is enjoyable if you do it right.
