A husband and wife opened a reindeer farm for the past two years, as a driver pushes consumers to be deceived when buying the animal meat.

Azreen Mohamed Arif, 39, and his wife, Atikah Ismail, 33, opened the Afia Deer Farm, making it a tourist attraction in the free-range Rantau Panjang town and selling venison.

Azreen gets the supply of deer from D'Paradise Deer Farm Sungai Lembing, Pahang, which is also the supplier of native deer in the country.

"In addition to seeing deer, visitors can buy authentic guaranteed deer.

"I sold at a reasonable price of RM35 to 500 grams and the demand for meat increased during Ramadan and Aidilfitri.

"So far we have supplied 300 kilograms of venison throughout Ramadan and got a 30 kilogram order," he said.

In addition to seeing the Timorensis breed deer, visitors of Afia Deer Farm are also provided with information on the deer habitat and the way they care.

Azreen welcomes young people to become deer farmer entrepreneurs and those who are interested can meet for guidance on how to farm and marketing.

"I opened the farm and sold deer meat not just to gain profits but rather to enlighten the community about fake deer meat sold widely.

"Many buyers are cheated by fake deer meat replaced with buffalo meat and sold at low prices, and some dare to sell through social sites without guilt," he said.
