Bangkong kolong has the scientific name Bufo melanostictus Schneider, 1799. This bangkong is also known by some other names such as frog buduk (Jkt.), Frog berut / kerok (Jw.), Brama frog (Jw, reddish color), and Asian black -spined toad (Ingg.).
The frog spread widely from India, the People's Republic of China south, Indochina to western Indonesia. In Indonesia, with the ride of human movement, these amphibians quickly spread (invaded) from island to island. Now bangkong kolong also been found in Bali, Lombok, Sulawesi and West Papua.
