THE PINK LAKE HILLER IN AUSTRALIA

in photo •  7 years ago

The lake is colored pale pink. The cause of this color has not been clarified to this day. This color is permanent, even after getting water into a container. In the mid-twentieth century, scientists studied the composition of water in the lake wanting to find out what causes the lake to take on a pink color. This color is produced by algae, e.g. Dunaliella salina, which produces red dye.

In the early years of the twentieth century, salt was extracted from the lake, but after 6 years of extraction production was abandoned.
