During one of my many road trips, I had the pleasure(or fright) of staying in this lovely cabin that smelled and looked like grandmas house from the 60's but also felt like I was in a wrong turn movie.
The owner was a born and bred Virginian redneck. He was helpful and friendly and had food for me to buy if I needed. I bought some bacon and eggs for breakfast and proceeded to my cabin.
The cabin below is in Love, Virginia and it is just off the Blue Ridge Parkway at the very top of a mountain in the woods in the middle of nowhere.
Upon entering the cabin, this is what I saw.
Yes, that is a VHS player in the TV of which the owner rented VHS movies out.
This couch had seen many people over the years.
Yes this is a bath tub in the living room.
This was the kitchen.
And the bathroom where the shower curtain matched the bedding and the couch
This is where I slept and spent the entire night because I was too afraid to move!
I feared for my life; I had no cell reception (A phone that wouldn't charge), no wifi and I was alone with my dog (who would quite happily say hi to a bear if given a chance).
The night was the worst sleep of my life, purely because of my own made up fear. I heard noises and toilets flushing even though I was the only person in the cabins that night.
I did like the book on the table; the book had stories of all the visitors that had stayed there through out the years. I learned that nothing had been replaced and everything was pretty much original, and it was indeed a cabin stuck in the past since before the days of the internet.
If you want to get away from technology, this is the perfect place.
Even after all of this, I would return to this cabin again to experience another night of disturbing nightmares.
Afterall this is the road you travel to arrive there.
