Here are some highlights best of 10 from September.
INSIDE THE COCKPIT
Two pilots land a plane at the Amsterdam airport. Your Shot photographer Martijn Kort is the pilot on the left. He fixed his camera at the back of the cockpit and set a timer, leaving him and his copilot to work in tandem and land the plane.
SNOWY SNUGGLES
In Canada's Wapusk National Park, a mother polar bear cuddles with her two cubs. When polar bears are born, they weigh only a pound. They'll stay with their mother in a hibernation den until they reach 20-30 pounds, at which point they all venture out into the world. Female polar bears have about five litters over the course of their lives, a significantly lower reproduction rate than other mammals.
WINTER WAVE
A winter wave crashes against a lighthouse near Porto, Portugal. Your Shot photographer Eduardo Teixeira de Sousa lives nearby, and he knew the shot he wanted to get when he visited that day. "i was in a tricky position as i could not possibly go further without entering the risk area," he remembers. "I had to keep on my toes for a while until the right one came—but i knew it would come!"
A TALL JOB
A worker cleans windows at the 124th floor of the Burj Khalifa in Dubai—the tallest building in the world. Taken in February, the photograph illustrates the low-level winter clouds that gather at sunrise.
FLOCKING TOGETHER
A flock of pied falconets gathers on a tree branch in Wuyuan, Jiangxi, China. The small birds are only about 6-8 inches in size, and they feed on everything from insects to small rodents in their forest homes.
HOT AND COLD
Out of the Kīlauea Volcano on the island of Hawai'i, a fountain of lava streams into the ocean. When the hot lava hits the cool waters, an explosive reaction sends rocks and debris flying.
DANGEROUS ASCENT
Climbers ascend Jengish Chokusu (also known as Victory Peak or Pik Pobeda), a summit between Kyrgyzstan and China that stands more than 24,000 feet tall. Your Shot photographer Saulius Damulevicius is one of a few hundred to ascend the dangerous mountain. Of the adventure, he says, "It remains my hardest climb despite subsequent expeditions in the Himalayas."
AFTER A WHILE, CROCODILE
In southern Mexico, near the Belize border, a wild American crocodile lies in wait. The crocodile can remain underwater for 30 minutes if necessary, which gave Your Shot photographer Jimmy S. time to get the perfect shot. "They are smart and quick when they hunt," he says, "so you better watch your back when you focus on shooting. Especially when I have to get really close to their teeth."
SEA OF NETS
In Nakhon Si Thammarat, located in southern Thailand, a family sits in a heap of fishing nets. If you can look closely, you can see tools in their hands as the mother teaches her children how to repair the nets.
MINE, NOT YOURS
A jackal scares away a scavenging bird during a harsh Bulgarian winter. According to Your Shot photographer Sergey Zlatkov, the jackal had been feasting on a dead animal nearby, and didn't want to share.
