It is immortal in Ekushey February a homely day in the life of Bangalis, it is rare in the history of the eternal event

The 21st February is a memorable day in our national life and history. Every year we celebrate the day with profound respect. The heroic sons laid down their lives for the sake of their mother tongue.

Then Pakistani rulers an order that urdu would be the state language of east Pakistan. But the heroic sons of our country protested against the declaration. They broke section 144 and brought out a procession. The armed forces fell upon the procession and shot fiercely. Many students died. Since then the 21st February is observed as a “shaheed day”. One this day we go to the shaheed minar bare footed and offer flowers and wreaths on the altar. We wear black badges and sing, “ Amar Bhayer Raktay Rangano Akusey February”. National dailies out special supplements on this day. Bangladesh beter and different channels telecast different programmes. Different organizations arrange programme on this day.

In 1999, UNESCO DECLARED THE DAY AS International Mother Language Day. Since then it is celebrated globally. Really It is a great achievement for our nation.
