First open wildflower I seen this year. Bugger is tiny, smaller'n a nickel. Cute little moth on there, huh?
Saw this flower in the western foothills a the Organ Mountains in Las Cruces, New Mexico, USA.
Dug around on lotsa flower sites, but can't figure out the species.
Suspect it's some kinda primrose (family Onagraceae). Got a call in for expert opinions on the PictureThis community. PictureThis is an app for plant identification.
Soon this guy'll be joined by flowers on the ocotillo, which are just buds now. In town, I seen a domesticated ash tree bloomin' in someone's yard. They always bloom first in these parts.
We got a likely ID, thanks to community help on the PictureThis app — Physaria fendleri, aka Fendler's bladderpod. Interesting plant. Wikipedia has a cool entry.
