Pictures within pictures, a frame within a frame.
This is the theme of this week's photo contest #photoanthill by @manoldonchev, which I think is a genius theme!
I think it is so interesting how a picture can contain a picture. A story within a story.
In the contest description it is allowed to submit 3 entries, which can be in the same post, so I take it to the max and found 3 previous photos of mine from different parts of the world, containing a picture withing a picture!
The first photo I have shared one time in a previous post about this Tajik Village in China.
This is the mother of a tribal family living in mudhuts in the plateau of Xinjiang in China that I had the honor to live with for two days. She is bringing in the newly baked flatbread made with the daughter in their mud oven outside the house.
It's a story of the outdoor, unprotected from the bright light and wind versus the protected darkness in the hut, build from the same earth it is standing on.
The Second photo is a photo of my friends Jeff and Jerome, busking in the village Jerome in Arizona (another frame within a frame!) seen through the window of a café.
It is a story of the life of the street musicians, by one of them (me), but seen from the outside, or should I say inside :)
The Third photo is with a more natural and less defined frame. It is taken in Srinagar, Kashmir in India.
The frame is both a window to the lake, and a frame around the man fishing, but also the family's front door! They live on a small island on Dal Lake, from where they go to the market or visit the neighbours by boat.
It is the story of the outside world, the water where they fish and harvest the lotus fruits, within the frame of the home, the island, the solid ground and land.
Thanks again to @manoldonchev for his great photo contest that makes you go deeper into the pictures and the stories!
