Good morning and I hope you are well. I enjoyed my first day on Steemit so much I thought I'd come back with some more Light Art.
I regularly visit an old abandoned Lime Kiln in the Peak District. It's always dark, out of the weather which is often rain and a place I feel relaxed enough to create.
This was a relatively simple shot to create using my favourite black fibers, a camera rotation tool, a flash gun and my friend Leon.
I composed for the architecture of the kiln. It's pretty symmetrical so I shoot straight down the middle. I asked Leon to position himself in the frame in a perfect line between the camera and the flash gun.
I fired the shutter on the camera and on the count of 3, Leon jumped in the air, whilst airborne I fired the flash using a radio trigger freezing his silhouette mid-air and illuminating the kiln. Lens cap on I then swapped lenses (mid-exposure) to a zoom lens. I placed the black fibers at the bottom of the frame and removed the lens cap before zoom pulling from 17mm to 50mm and replacing the lens cap. I rotate the camera and repeat the zoom pull/rotation until the camera is back where it started
Shot in complete darkness during a long exposure.
I love how the zoom pull effect draws the eye to the human form in the middle of the frame as he is taken up.
