The Floating Islands of Uros

Right outside of Puno,in the middle of Lake Titicaca, sits the floating Isles of Uros. While visiting Peru this past summer I had the pleasure of visiting these curious wonders. Lake Titicaca is actually the highest altitude, traversable lake in the world which I thought was really neat. In the middle of this lake lives a group of people who have woven together their own floating islands out of reeds that grow in the waters. When we visited the islands they actually showed us how they go about making the different islands and how they do their daily activities. They catch fish for food and even have little clay pot ovens to cook their meat. What I thought was really neat was that each of the floating islands were usually home to only one or two families. Each family would have a little house that they wove out of the reeds. Each of these houses even came equipped with solar power panels so they could have radios or TVs. We got to go on the tour of one of these houses and it was really interesting to see how these people live.
