Amen! You are so right, some of the photos that we own are akin to the greatest treasures on earth...Even if only to us...
I gotta be honest, if 95% of the photos that I own, suddenly disappeared, I would get over it fast enough. But those 5% WOW! They have gotten me through dark times, helped to abate grief and made me smile so, so many times in life...They are like crack for the heart...
Of-course we all know that they are mere snapshots of a moment of a day, way back when, and that most of our internal memories outweigh that piece of photo-paper but it really is great to gaze upon them, isn't it?
Photos such as this one also have an added dimension, they allow us to glimpse at those whom we only ever knew as much, much older...It can be a glimpse into the eyes of those we love, before life's influence had begun to shape them.
It is a really hard dimension to define I think, as you say. It's something worth thinking about really. It might have something to do with older manufacturing processes literally not having the capacity to cut corners. I know that sounds odd but I'll explain more next we chat :)
