Sahalie Falls, OR

If you want an absolutely magical (and also easy) hike, you must go here! My dad had been wanting to take us on this hike for years and I finally got the opportunity to when road tripping with him and my little bro from Sacramento to Spokane.

The hike is located in the Willamette National Forest alongside the McKenzie River off the 126 HWY. It's an easy 2.6 mile loop starting at the falls and following the river (with several other pools and falls along the way). The color of the river is magical. A beautiful icy blue as if it came straight from a glacier, and yet no glaciers nearby. I couldn't believe how blue it was! It was a slow hike because I stopped to take photos at every corner. There was always a new fantastic scene at each turn. Even caught a lovely shot my little bro meditating while waiting on me. :)

This is my idea of paradise. I'll take a forest and mountains over the beach any day.

Amazing photography @alevaskye. I've never been to Oregon but would love to visit one day. Your photography has inspired me to make sure I do! Keep up the great work. I'm now following! 🙂

Incredibly gorgeous photos! How long have you been shooting?

With my Sony A7 and good lenses it's been 3 years. I've known cameras for 10 years through my job, just never had my own gear until then.

Ah. Well you have a great collection!

That's a really amazing series of photos! I love the landscapes, the portrait and the more creative shots like the smarptphone and the treetrunk! Amazing job!

It's always fun for me to see a photographer with a consistent style and look. Keep it up and next time I'm back in Oregon I'm gonna give this one a shot perhaps... I mean there are a lot of falls to choose from after all. haha

Agreed. Consistency in a group of photos like this adds instant value and really ties them together into a story. Kinda beautiful photos anyway!!

you really are great at colouring. i suck at it, so gotta learn how to do it properly

Ingredients

4 cups uncooked brown rice (or white if preferred)
2 cups whole milk
2 1/2 cups cooked ham, cubed
3 medium tomatoes, diced
1/4 cup crispy bacon bits (optional)
1/4 freshly chopped chives (optional)
Comeback Sauce:
1 medium onion, diced
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 medium lemon, juiced
2 tablespoons ketchup
2 tablespoons dijon mustard
1/4 cup chili sauce or sriracha
2 tablespoons worchestershire sauce
4 ounces cream cheese
1 cup mayonnaise
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon sea salt
Instructions

Cook the rice according to the package instructions until just tender, not sticky (you still want it to have a slight bite to it). Drain rice and cool a little while you prep the sauce.
Combine the onion, garlic, and lemon in a food processor or blender and pulse until combined. Add the remaining ingredients for the sauce and blend until smooth. Combine the sauce, tomatoes, milk, and the rice in a large skillet or a shallow pot and stir until combined. Place over medium high heat and stir occasionally for about 20 minutes until it's heated through. Add the ham and reduce heat to low then cover and simmer until all of the milk is absorbed and the rice is hot and thick.
