This mural and graffiti-filled alleyway extends from the side-door entrance to my favorite downtown coffee spot: Old City Java.
In downtown Knoxville, the outskirts neighborhood is called Old City and features towering but grimey brick structures, vacant slots in streetside buildings, and a burgeoning indie culture taking over one shop at a time.
A few gems to experience in Old City:
- Old City Java, an indie-somewhat-grunge coffee shop owned by hometown heros Shaun & Peg, who also own Wild Love Bakehouse and the soon-to-be Pearl on Union.
- RALA: Regional and Local Artisans, the go-to spot for locally made goods, unique artwork, and trend-oriented products.
- Mill & Mine, an unbelievably cool event space that's ahead of its time in still-developing local Knoxville. Huge open floorplan, wrought-iron railing catwalk entertainment deck, and a full kitchen + artificial lawn for extensive entertaining.
- Good Golly Tamale, makers of the best tamales and the least expensive place in town to fill your belly and your soul with goodness.

I have not had the opportunity to be in Knoxville but these images invite visitors to visit, graffiti is often done by street children in the neighborhoods, which create a unique art for the talent they have.

This graffiti was made in some gagones of the metro in the city of Caracas Venezuela, some called it vandalism, for me it is pure art.
