Photo journal: a quest for perspective in Capri

in photofeed •  7 years ago

Travelling through Italy with @cryptoctopus during low season has had its challenges as well as perks. When you think of Cinque Terre and the Almafi Coast, floating on pristine blue waters, boating trips, sundresses and sunglasses, and sunny rocky beaches are usually the first pictures that come to mind.

Our stay on the idyllic island of Capri was the antithesis of this picture. It was rainy and cloudy the whole time. Most every restaurant was shut down. Our airbnb turned out to be a dissapointment being on the on the busiest street, with no hot tub, and loud renovations going on in the rooms next door- nothing like the photos shown online.

We needed a different perspective to turn the gloom into something memorable. So finding a free moment between rain outbursts, we set out with our cameras to see what we could discover. I am taking a Udemy photography course which launched me on the perfect quest for perspective.

Here are my attempts at applying the "rule of thirds."

I found a perfect spot to capture negative space.

I worked on symmetry.

And found some awesome doorways.

The view at the end of our hike wasn't so bad.

Capri turned out to be a incredible place. We just had to look a little closer and change our perspective.

Really looks amazing! Looking forward to see where this journey goes :)

WOW! Amazing pictures with your new camera? Keep going!

I'm sorry your hotel room and weather was shitty :( On a bright note your photography is lovely. My wife and I really enjoyed Capri. I looks like you went north to Cinque Terre already...did you get to positano?

That's travelling for you! Yes, were in Positano two days ago and Cinque Terre last week. Wonderful town. Crazy bus ride getting there though!

Insanity! Have you found the guys serving lemon ice out of a little bike contraption?

Seems like you enjoyed Italy and taking pictures here. I live in a small town near Rome, are you guys thinking of coming to Rome?

Oh neat! We were in Rome last weekend and absolutely loved our time spent there. Where are you from? Maybe we will stop by next time.

Crap! Been away a couple of days and missed it. I feel comfortable saying I'm in Rome. Next time I'll hit you up in time

They already did visit Rome - I think they're winding-up their trip to Italy now.

Yes, that's right, Capri was our last stop. But we will be back!

Thanks for the info brother

Nice photos! Italy is a very nice country to visit... and each city is unique! Siena is one of my favourite cities in Italy, even though it's not a large tourist attraction like Rome, Venice or Florence! :-D

I have never been to Sienna but will have to check it out next time!

I think my favorite one is the negative space one. But glad to see you're really diving in and taking photography seriously. Excited to see more pics!

Thank you! I really had fun with that one. Cant wait to play around more with negative space.

i never been to italy, maybe one day can go and i make this photo as motivation

Some very nice photos, especially the close-ups - where you're not trying to capture too much in one shot.

They sure do make me miss visiting Italy too! Next time you go, try an Agri-tourismo. They're usually more rustic, but can be great finds - often run by Italians on working farms, or vineyards. We stayed in one when we got married in Italy (just outside Cortona in Tuscany) and it was amazing - so much better than a hotel or AirBnb.

This is a real post.

Your photos are amazing! Perfect capture as it is! I love Italy.. 👌🏻

Your stunning photos make me want to go there. I've been to Italy twice, once as a teenager and last year. Not to Capri though. I'd put it on my bucket list if it wasn't so far. ;-).

Greetings from Bangkok and keep up the good work!

Thanks for sharing! I love the photos - reminds me of the good times in Cinque Terre past summer :)
