An Engaging Day - A Light Reflection On Gentrification

Every now and then, I dabble in the romantics. AKA I do a few weddings and engagements a year. The other week I took the engagement photos of some friends-of-friends, and we decided to do it in the in-transition-of-hardcore-gentrification neighborhood of Franklinton, right by Downtown Columbus. The last time I had really explored that area, @yumyumseth and I had snuck in to an old abandoned building and shot a little music video. Now that whole area is fenced off, with a huge apartment building being built directly beside it. In one sense, gentrification is nice because it's making bad neighborhoods nicer. In another way, it also feels like the authenticity and the rawness of the city is being lost, and being replaced by impersonal buildings for throngs of rich folk. Despite my thoughts about gentrification, and losing some of the original history of the area (well, neighborhood and buildings history in the United States only goes back a few years compared to nearly anywhere else in the world), here are a few of my favorite shots from the area that will soon lose its lackluster luster.
