The Grey Nurse

Straight from work on Monday, into some this with my good buddy Matty Smith, escaping the heat and soaking up the last of the good weather. This is my favourite dive spot at the moment, every year during summer when the water warms, we are greeted by a beautiful family of Grey Nurse sharks or as Ragged-tooth sharks which they are also known by. 99% of sharks are not man eaters, these sharks are very chilled with great personality once they trust you they will begin to come in closer and closer.

I'm extremely close to this particular shark, shot this at 17mm and about an arms length away and I don't feel threatened at all.

Awesome shot, mate! Felt like I was with you on this dive!

Thanks a lot!

Wow! Intense.

Very chilled these guys

That's pretty neat! What depth were you at?

Not very deep about 15m

I love your photos. You need to get onto @choogirl and get yourself onboard with #teamaustralia

Thanks Stephen! I'll check it out now :)

Hauntingly beautiful! Great capture :) Its incredible that you shot this with such a wide angle, I've only ever dived with white tip sharks which were definitely less intimidating that this hahaha

Thanks a lot Tristan. A lot of people get freaked out about Grey Nurse sharks because of how their teeth are so visible but they are really chilled out

I agree. Hauntingly beautiful is the right word. I don't think I could do it, regardless of their supposed friendly nature. Look at those teeth!
