Mt. Assiniboine - Across Canada, Day 25 of 92

Assiniboine

Another day, another hike - this one was more serious: a 30km one-way trek into Mt. Assiniboine Provincial Park, B.C., from the Mt. Shark trailhead (in Alberta), with camping gear, camera gear and food for three days on my back. It was a long, tiring solo walk, but one of the best adventures of the trip, being rewarded at the end with views like this of Mt. Assiniboine, a peak that has been appropriately termed the Matterhorn of the Canadian Rockies. This park is in my opinion one of the most beautiful natural areas in all of Canada, and I would return here any day.

Spending two nights and three days here, I will write a longer story and share many more photos from this backpacking trip at a later date.

Watch out for snow

It DID snow the next day and it was awesome! :D

Incredibly beautiful photo. Do you have cell service to be able to upload?

I do now, @dabeckster, because I'm safely at home, reliving the adventures through my photographs, but at the time I was utterly without signal in the park! Thank you. :)

wow

wow! so pretty!

Thanks! :)

Beautiful colors. Love that fall look. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks man!

Keep living and sharing your adventures. Great photo!

Thank you, I will!

Wow, stunning photo! You got yourself a new follower with this one. :D

Woohoo, that's awesome, @acidyo! Thrilled to have such an esteemed Steemian as a follower. :D

dang this is one of my favorites of the set!

Thanks, Jarvie! I'll tell you a secret: it's one of mine too. Someone asked me today what my favourite photo from the trip was, and it was between this one and the Aurora at Lake O'Hara. I like them for different and similar reasons.

This is stunning!!

Hey, thank you! Great to see you still on Steem. :)

Nice. Great to see the larches like that. Such an amazing part of the world. Glad you had some good weather.

Good and bad both! Thankfully I brought food for three days and was able to stick it out until I got something good. :)

Yep. We spent 4 nights in there but we heli'd in. We were a couple of weeks before larch however.

Still, I envy you the more luxurious mode of transportation. ;)

I just did not have time to hike both ways ; we had just done the Tonquin valley in the same week. So we helied in and spent a couple of nights at Magog and then hiked out to sunshine but stayed at Og lake on the way out which was a magic spot.

Can I tag along on your hikes some year?

For sure we have to catch up some day soon. Coming up to my third winter in Canada !

Three winters in Canada is like a lifetime of winters in Australia!

Wow Derek, way to wait out the weather to get this STUNNING shot. Love it!
