The Road to Hekla Is Paved...

...with good intentions?

A lonely road in Iceland leads to one of the island's most active and famous volcanoes, long considered to be the Gateway to Hell.

Usually the mountain is covered by cloud but on this day it glowered over them threateningly.

Gorgeous shot!

Cheers! :)

Great shot! It's sweet how dark most of the landscape is with that whitecap peeking out and contrasting nicely.

Thank you, @yumyumseth! I wanted to draw the eye more towards the mountain than to anything else. :)

Well I'd consider it a success in that case :)

:D

Cool photo!

Thanks! :)

Outstanding shot! I love the contrast yellow poles leading to Hekla

Thank you! Normally stuff like that just gets in the way, but I do like the yellow markers along Icelandic roads. :)

I really love the dark mood and the processing in this. Perfect shot!

Hey thanks, @mibreit-photo! I did want to give it a brooding, surreal feel. :)

Wow.. How did you like Iceland?

Oh, well, let me count the ways!! I haven't been there since 2012, but I felt an affinity for the place. I love the weather, the people and culture, the mythology, and there's something about the landscape that I haven't felt anywhere else. It's very, um, Tolkien-esque in many ways.

Really cool picture! How is it to photograph in Iceland?

It's AWESOME! So much scope for imagination. :)

This is such a superb photo. One of my favorites of yours.

Thanks so much, @intrepidphotos! :D

What an incredible photo. This is very cool That good for you. I will be attentive to your next publications.

Thank you, @mlaura! I'll be posting a lot more in the future. :)

Stun. Ning. Iceland is definitely on my bucket list. Cheers!

Thanks! It's totally worth visiting! :)

Quite the epic view! I bet there are a few of those around Iceland. I can't wait to go there one day!

Oh yes, quite a few - you'd love it there. :)

That's an amazing shot! I don't know how to take good photos in darker lighting yet. My husband proposed to me on a volcano in Chile!

Oh, wow, @alovelymess, that's a unique proposal! :)

omg, this picture is insane! :)

hehe, thanks! :)

One hell of a photo!

Thank you! :)

I NEED to go here, and not too long from now. I believe Iceland is a photographer’s paradise :-) Great shot! Bold contrasts :-)

Yes it is! And I hope it remains so now that it's so popular! :)

Oh, man! Indeed! I've been eyeing Greenland as well - it's not yet popular as far as I know :-)

I think Greenland would be an excellent choice - or northern Canada. Still difficult enough to get to that they aren't overrun. :)
