Digital Painting – Terrier Mix Dog

BORN IN THE USA

I know! I know! It's caturday and not dogurday, but it's as good a day as any to share this digital painting I did of Carlos a few years back! He was my son's dog, but with all the moving around he did, Carlos ended up staying with us! I could write a book about his antics, but instead, I think I may write a few posts about him! There was never a dull moment with him around, so there is plenty to write about. He's been gone five years now, but I still miss him! He lived till the ripe old age of 17, so he had a good life in spite of his bad start as a puppy handed over to the Humane Society. As you can see, he had the perfect Benji look, so had a lot of admirers in the neighborhood!

I made the original photograph that this digital painting is based on when I had my portrait studio. Fourth of July was coming up, so I put the patriotic kerchief around his neck, and the rest, as they say, is history. This digital work, entitled Born In The USA won an award at the national level in a competition for photographers in the Professional Photographers Of America. It is also a stock image now and can be licensed through Getty Images here, and a large framed canvas print of the work hangs in our dining room.

Great image. My son has his photos on Getty too but I wonder if it is worthwhile? What do you think? I have stacks of photos.

I have been with them for over 20 years. It was worthwhile until about 6 or 7 years ago, but now they are flooded with images, and image theft on the internet is a killer. Back then with 1,000 carefully curated images I was making 40 times more than I am making now with 4,000 images online! They were once a premium agency with proper image editors, and they also had professional keyworders. Now I think they hire minimum wage people to choose images! LOL! Just a few weeks ago they stopped doing the keywording, and that's a biggie! Until recently, only images from full frame DSLR's were accepted. I think that may have changed now.

I don't submit much anymore, because to be honest, the images that sell best are the ones I have had up there for years! I have images on iStock too now (that's their microstock agency), but like with all the micros, you have to sell in huge volumes in order to make much. I collect monthly royalties from a whole bunch of agencies, because it all adds up. But submitting to one agency these days is a waste of time and effort. My two cents. :-)

Thanks for the info. I suspected as much. Paying minimum wage isn't going to do anyone any good.
The industry is in a major disruption for sure.

I've got a few photos on Redbubble that do sell quite well.
I will put some more up there.

Yes, I need to get some more on Redbubble! The problem is I’m spending too much time on Steemit! Lol!

This is beautiful, Diane... So sorry he's no longer with you; pets have a special place in our hearts. I had a cat for 20 years, I don't think I want another though I have a few community cats we visit with regularly...

Thanks! And thanks for stopping by! They sure do have a special place in our hearts, and they take it with them when they go. My oldest kitty lived till she was 21 and my last 2 were 19 and 18! It’s hearbreaking when you lose them. 😥

feliz domingo bella, te he dejado mi primer dibujo digital en la entrada de Sunday Scent Experience.
Las mascotas son la alegria de nuestras casas y tu cuadro es un espectaculo para la vista.

@dmcamera that pic is so cute, I found an old photo the other day (print) of a small dog I had years ago so I scanned it in and tired to fix it but I gave up after a while. But one day (when I have the necessary knowhow) I will do it. These memories are so special!

Awww, Carlos has such a sweet face, beautiful artwork!
Is there a dogurday?
I just found out that there is a photodigitalpainting category.
