Deep in the Forest

Another awesome image. Reminds me a little of the rain forest areas of Far North Queensland here in Australia. Different trees of course, just the colours, the moss on that fallen tree...

Yep there are some amazing forests up in FNQ. I hope to get back there some time next year.

I used to live in Cairns for a bit so got around up there a lot. You ever been deep in the rain forest at night? Now THAT'S an experience.

Yes I did a few guided night hikes in Bolivian Amazon hoping to see some Tapir. No luck on the Tapir but we did track some prints for quite a while and also found some Jaguar prints which was a bit freaky.

It's primal, the rain forest at night, I think. I felt like I didn't belong there amongst the wild things. I'm not afraid of the dark but it was...Odd to be there after dark.

I trekked the "Kokoda Trail" in Papua New Guinea as well and got the same feeling.

Would love to do Kokoda one day; although I would be more tempted to climb Puncak Jaya

I'm into history (war history) so Kokoda was for that purpose, to pay my respects. It was difficult but then it sounds like you know your way around a hiking boot. I can highly recommend it. I don't know much about Puncak Jaya...Any hike is a good one though. 😀

Yes I would like to do it one day for that reason also. My brother did it a few years back. It is a tough slog by all accounts. Most of my knowledge of the history of the track comes from reading the Peter FitzSimons book about it.

It's tough yes. Worth it though. Such a great life experience. The Fitzsimmons book is a good resource. Peter Brune has a good book too. "A bastard of a place". Worth a read.
