Rufous Hummingbird

in photofeed •  6 years ago

A female Rufous Hummingbird (Selasphorus rufus) in flight. They are difficult critters to get a shot of and to freeze the motion this was taken with a shutter speed of 1/2500, that’s less than half a millisecond. Hard to believe these tiny birds travel over 3,200 km (2,000 miles) from Alaska to southern Mexico and back, having to cross mountain ranges as high as 3,800 m (12,600 ft). Measuring only 7cm (2.8–3.5 in) long, it is the longest bird migration on earth when measured in body lengths. They weigh a miniscule 2 to 5 g (0.071 and 0.176 oz). Kinbasket Lake, British Columbia, Canada.

This bird is really really beautiful like a fancy bridal dress..Thanks for the info.

Wow, that detail and the light. Where did you take it?

It was taken at Kinbasket Lake which is between Yoho and Glacier national parks in BC. Was sunset light.

Wow, hummingbird during a sunset? That's one lucky shot.

Stunning.

What's the backdrop of the photo? Very nice and clean shot.

the smaller the hummingbird.. the faster its wings flap.

very nice perspective on the bird itself!

What a beautiful bird

The camera position of the Rufous Hummingbird is quiet fascinating and what makes it more colorful is the artistic combination of the lovely colors of its feather. Great Post!

Truly awesome image. If you read my Bird Story you understand why it brings such delight to my heart. In my long life I have rarely taken photos, only recently with a cell phone. I have been wanting to take some of birds to go with my blog and I am wondering if you could recommend a good simple camera for a beginner?

This is a wonderful capture and great information
