Red Waves

The red sandstone of Antelope Canyon weaves about the canyon walls with soft flowing curves forming many awesome shapes that glow with color when the sunlight slips through the narrow openings above.

Amazing photography my friend. I appreciate your brilliant creativity.

I'm trying to keep it amazing, thanks for watching!

'what a cool thing , nice

much obliged, thanks!

Beautiful shot. Kind looks like there's a little bit of a light ray coming down in the middle? Some neat shape and patterns going on with the light. I don't think I've seen this one before, or at least don't remember it? This isn't one of the main ones you sell is it? Looks different.. Anyways.. Cool work!

Thanks Paul, Yes the light is coming in middle lighting the floor. I pulled this one from the archives so it's new. I have a lot more to show over time.

This place looks so beautiful! What a nice picture to come back to on Steemit! :-)

Well welcome back Josephine' I hope you had a great summer. Thanks for the nice compliment!

Thank you! I really did. Hope yours was great as well :-) Keep posting your beautiful images!

i love those red colors

That's nice to hear, thank you!

wow it s very very very nice photography great place <3

Yes and now days it's crowded with tourist's, but still wonderful. Thanks!

Hello @irvinesimages, when I look at your picture it impresses me a little, there is a lot of red color, it seems a bit strong, I honestly would not pass by this small road that is appreciated.
Blessings:)

Hi Martha, greetings. People line up here paying about $50 per visit to walk through this slot canyon. The film I shot these images on was very red saturated. Many blessings to you!

What is this sir?
Looks like red cube painted in red.

This red sandstone canyon was formed by erosion.

sir you and your photography is very amazing.

Thank you again sir with much thanks!

Just wow!

That says a lot, thanks!

Wao this picture looks very beautiful and amazing. I really like it.

Thank you very much!

Uhhh so awesome, very strange but got him beauty. The place is incredible, thanks for share this. Great photo and red color, another level.

It's just a really amazing place with many many visitors. Thanks and i'm happy to share.

@irvinesimages, wow what a stunning red. I love it very much. You have captured and express the red well. Did you use any special lens or photo apps to present the special effect of the red color? I also like how you took it with a special white in the middle. Red and white is a good combination.
Thank you much for sharing this photo and congratulation on your curie vote.

Thanks for the nice compliments and for sharing your perspective. This image was shot on film using a polarizing filter and a long exposure to saturate the colors. The white spot on the ground is the direct sunlight hitting it which is lighting up the red sandstone around it.

@irvinesimages, I didn't knew that the sunlight could gave such effect. And it was marvelous.

howdy from Texas sir irvinesimages! no way..that is a natural, untouched photo? That's astounding. I didn't know that sandstone came in red colors! lol. Do you have other stunning pictures of Arizona landscapes?

Howdy back to you from Arizona, that's a greeting I have used a lot over the years but don't hear much now days. Yes I have many images of Arizona and the southwest on my blog. Also there a few more photos of Antelope Canyon that aren't so red. Please have a look and thanks! By the way the Sedona area is called "red rock country".

howdy again sir irvinesimages! I'll go look at your blog. I remember when I was a kid we visited the Sedona area, lots of beautiful sites there.

Amazing symmetry and light in this shot. You got there at a perfect moment!

Your right because the light is always changing and it can come and go quickly. Thanks!

That is a truth the red canyon stones and their nice flowing shape build up nice waves that gives an impression of red colored clothes with their nice folds. The first thing I thought when I saw your picture was “Flamenco” as the dancers of Flamenco have such bright red colors clothes. The nature has its beauty and for photographer it is important to find the right moment to get that single unique reflection of the last sun rays. Beautiful picture :)

You have a unique perspective which I like and you understand the importance of the right moment. Thanks for your thoughtful input.

Wow! This is just breathtaking, I love that red color and the light reflection the ground. The shapes too are so so interesting, haven't seen something like this before. Did you go in there to get the shot? I would have loved to see its shape from outside...

From outside it looks like a cave. I have been there many times and have taken many photographs which I will release over time. The best ones are yet to come.

That place must be really fascinating to make you go back there over and over again! You are saving the best for last, yeah? I will really loveto see them!

Stunning red?! I have seen photos of the canyon with a shade between orange and red but not totally red. Wow!

The weaves look so close on the photo. How close were you when you took it? And how high are the weaves?

Yes I was standing about 20 feet away using a wide angle lens, The rock walls rise up 50 to 70 feet. The deep red is the result of light, film and technique. There's a trick to shooting these low light images.

Oh, okay... so you mean the red color is an effect of your post processing, right? How near or far is this color shade to your as-is shot?

What I mean is it starts with optimal illumination ( the right amount of light) secondly I used (ultra color high red saturation film) And finally I employ shooting technique's that bring out more color. If you scroll down my blog you will find several other slot shots that are not so red.

Oh, okay. I got it better now. It is really more of the techniques in taking the photo.

Thanks for all your clarifications.

Wow! I'm sorry but I have to ask.. have you edited the color a little bit? I have never been to the Antelope Canyon, so this is really just out of curiosity. I have never seen something that would be naturally this red. If this is the color, then I have to visit the canyon asap. It must be an amazing experience to stand there and admire this beauty.

I love the light coming in through that hole and also that purple-ish rocks in the back. It's all so beautiful.

Thank you for sharing!

If you visited this canyon in the winter it would be dark and mostly devoid of color. The most intense light comes in around the summer solstice and what gives the red sandstone the most color is reflected light which can make the rock glow inside the chamber, in part because this sandstone has a crystalline structure. The timing of the light is super tricky and takes many visits to figure out. Good luck!
Also I used Agfa ultra color-50 film with high red saturation and employ high color shooting technique's
I do color edit and other corrections. High res scans are never the final product and always require editing.

I'm happy to share and thanks!

Hey, @irvineimages.

Amazing image. I had to read what this was, because the canyon walls seem to be flimsy in the lighting, like paper or some kind of curtain. The textures flow in all kinds of different directions and the different shades, from a fiery red to something that looks like purple swirls, with some yellow, too.

I've never been to Antelope Canyon, but now I'll need to go. Just what are the walls made of? I'm sure they're contributing to all this color, too.

Very nice. Congratulations on the curie. :)

Hello and thanks for the congrats! This canyon is basically solid rock in the form of red sandstone and drains a large area starting 30 miles upstream, the most powerful erosion comes from flash floods which occur mostly during the monsoon season. Antelope Canyon has become a major tourist attraction and is quite crowded nowadays. Please research it before making plans to visit.

What a beautiful shot @irvinesimages. It looks painted too at some angles. I love how the ray of light shines through and the lines on the formations. Stunning!

Thanks for taking a look and commenting! Very nice compliment.

:) A happy week to you!

Thanks and the same to you!

Love it. Resteemed!

Thanks a lot' I appreciate that!
