Amethyst

Semiprecious stone

On a road trip through Brazil

We had decided to stop in a small town for the night and took a walk around to see what we could find. We found a little shop that was filled with Amethyst of all shapes and sizes. The shop owner told us that all the rocks come from a mine in the north or Uruguay and are transported by trucks into Brazil, where they are broken open and polished to be sold.

Macro Photography contest entry

This macro was created by focus stacking.
"Focus stacking is a digital image processing technique which combines multiple images taken at different focus distances to give a resulting image with a greater depth of field than any of the individual source images."

This was my first attempt at this technique. The resulting image did not turn out the way i hoped and the image did need some heavy cropping.

very interesting, and those amethyst are such a beautiful colour. As a first attempt that photo turned out pretty well.

Fun fact! Although known for it's beauty, Amethyst should always be kept out of sunlight. Sunlight deteriorates the beautiful dark purple color of the stone and depreciates the value of the crystal spiritually and $$ wise. A proper place would be on a book shelf in a darker corner near and Incandescent light or near candle light in a bed room. 😸

Oh wow thats very interesting, thanks for the info. They are beautiful to have as a decoration. I was told to take them out at night to be charged by the moon light.

The moon light is a good way to charge them. If you want to charge them with the energy from the sun, you can also let a bowl of water sit in the sun during the day, and then take the bowl out of the sun, and place the amethyst in the bowl of water. The Solar energy will collect in the water with out harming the value of the crystal :)
