A day in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness, Washington State (album)

in photofeed •  7 years ago

Arguably my favorite camping trip of the past year. I'm still not sure I've seen a lake as beautiful as this one. It's the most vibrant color I've ever seen in water, and it glistens like a jewel in sunlight.

We got to spend an entire 24 hours here.. which was amazing, especially after the hike in. 21 miles roundtrip in midsummer sun. It was hot. The last mile is straight up a boulder field with no shade whatsoever. We were all pretty dead. But once we crested that final hill and caught the first glimpse of this place, I completely forgot about the hike and how tired I was.

All of us were instantly rejuvenated and excited at the beauty of this place. Pretty crazy how nature can affect us in such a way. We spent the rest of the day relaxing, swimming, exploring, eating, napping... perfect.

Looking forward to my return here.

This is absolutely spectacular. I LOVE your blog--especially as another Pacific Northwest (I’m Seattle, too!). Looking forward to getting a steady feed of PNW photography and can’t wait to see where this goes. :) The only thing I might suggest is to hyperlink to the hike itself so others could try it out--if this is in WA I assume there’s a WTA link?

Hey! What's up neighbor. I figured there were other Seattleites scattered about here, though you're the first I've come across. And thanks, I'll check yours out too! We live in a beautiful place.

The hike is Jade Lake, WTA isn't too helpful but the link can be found here https://www.wta.org/go-hiking/hikes/jade-lake

Amazing...it looks incredible. I got to do the Enchantments Core last summer and it was one of the best hikes I’ve ever done -- I really want to get back up into that alpine region this year. Love this (I curate for some folks and recommended you...and looks like you got a little something for these beautiful photos!!) Keep up the great work--a tip--a lot of curating sites won’t pick up content that’s previously been posted on your website or blog (in this post you used 1 photo from your portfolio and 5 that were original to steemit so that was okay). Also, folks who use a few headlines here and there, line breaks, and mix a bit of story in between their photos seem to do really well...continuously. Just a few tips, so you can keep seeing your rewards grow. :) See you around.

It is! You should try to go, so beautiful. This past year was my first in the Enchantments too, though I had to do it on snowshoes so it was a bit of a different experience. Our permit was for the last week of October, right after a weeklong snowstorm. It was gorgeous though.

Thanks for the recommendation! Still learning about Steemit. I didn't know curating was so big until a couple of days ago. I'll definitely keep your formatting tips in mind for my future posts, thanks for that as well :) See ya!

Ours was mid-September right during the fires. Luckily the Core was still open but we had to view Colchuck from the top of Anna Purna. I would love to go in the snow, it must be remarkable....it was a once in a lifetime experience. Looking forward to your pics ;)

I’ll say...I’m not a photographer, but here are snaps of our trip! https://steemit.com/travel/@lilyraabe/the-enchantments-an-adventure-7500-feet-in-the-sky

Looks beautiful! Hopefully the smoke wasn't too terrible. I did a few backpacking trips in the smoke, breathing was hard. Got some pretty interesting sunsets because of it though..

Simply breathtaking. What is your training in photography?

Thank you! I'm self taught. Started about two years ago

Well you did a great job with your education. :) Do you have a favorite resource that you wouldn't mind sharing? I just bought a camera that I hope to grow into for the next several years. :)

Thanks :)

Favorite resource.. probably a map honestly, haha. Shooting in epic places can lead to some pretty photos. My favorite youtube photographer is Thomas Heaton, look him up if you're unfamiliar

That's good advice. :) Thank you. I will look him up. I really appreciate it!

These are such beautiful photographs. Thank you for sharing this amazing place through your camerawork. Truly stunning!

thanks! this place was so beautiful, made the photos come easy :)

Ridiculously beautiful. Have you bagged any peaks in this region?

I haven't hopped on the peak bagger train really, yet. But I plan on it. I'd like to take some mountaineering classes locally first

I'm wondering how technical these mountains are. I'd imagine many of them are able to be climbed via scrambling... Haven't had the opportunity to explore Washington's Cascades too much yet. Based on these pictures though I really really want to. For sheer epicness these peaks look like they could give the Rockies a run for their money.

Yeah, I'm sure many of them are. You should come visit sometime, WA cascades are beyond epic
